A mattress, futon or box spring is recycled at the county transfer station, and the city's own recycling events generally accept bedding as well.
City cost & eligibility
$30 per mattress, futon or box spring recycled at a King County transfer station. The Bow Lake, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline and Vashon transfer stations accept mattresses, futons and box springs for recycling, up to six items per customer; wet items are refused and stained or torn items are accepted. A city recycling event charge is separate and is set on the event flyer.

Take the item to the Shoreline station during station hours, or watch for the city's twice-yearly recycling event date.
Get it ready
Keep the item dry, because wet mattresses, futons and box springs are refused at the station, and bring a box spring together with its matching mattress if both are going.

Cost & conditions
From $40.25 for minimum garbage charge up to 320 pounds at a King County transfer station, with lower minimum rates for separated clean wood and yard waste and a per ton rate above 320 pounds. King County residents. Clean wood, scrap metal, cardboard and yard waste must be separated out of garbage, and separated recyclables are taken at no charge.
Arrange it
Drive to 2300 N 165th Street in Shoreline during station hours, stop at the scale, and pay by card, cash or Apple Pay. Mattresses, appliances, clean wood and scrap metal are diverted to their own areas.
A load must be secured or a fee is added, and vehicles plus trailers are limited to a combined 40 feet.

A household with appliances, scrap metal, electronics, mattresses or documents to clear out at the spring or fall event.
Cost & conditions
The city lists the event categories and marks tires, propane tanks, porcelain toilets and sinks, refrigerators and freezers, appliances and scrap metal, and mattresses and box springs with a charge. Electronic and computer equipment and television sets carry no charge marker, and the amounts for the marked items are set on the event flyer, so confirm the current charges before the event.

The event runs twice a year and the accepted items and charges are confirmed on each event flyer, so it is not a year-round route.
