Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Everything must fit inside the city cart unless an extra item fee or a haul-away appointment is arranged, and the city states that items left at the curb without a prior arrangement are not collected.
City cost & eligibility
From $3.7 per extra bag, box or can placed outside the cart, added to the monthly cart service. Yakima address receiving City Utility Services; the extra item is collected with the regular route only when it has been requested, and overfill above the cart rim is charged separately.
When & how
Keep the regular collection day and put the cart out by 6 a.m.; request extra items or a haul-away appointment ahead of time through the Refuse Division.
Get it ready
Bag and tie all garbage, close the lid, and leave four feet of clearance around the cart with the wheels facing the residence. Anything too large for the cart belongs in a scheduled haul-away load.
Furniture is collected through the city haul-away appointment service, with couch, recliner, table and chair amounts published on the item list.

From $20 per couch on the city haul-away item list, added to the minimum appointment charge, with recliners, hide-a-beds and sectionals priced per published amount. Get it ready
Keep the piece dry and reachable from the alley or curb line, and remove loose cushions or glass that could break in the truck. Say how many pieces you are setting out when you book.

Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, keep it upright, and secure the doors. Drain a water heater before pickup, as the city's priced item requires.
Yakima carts go to the curb or alley line by 6 a.m. on the collection day, at least four feet from any obstruction, with the wheels facing the residence and the lid opening toward the road. Keep all garbage bagged and tied inside the cart.
Book an appointment before setting out large items
The city states that items left at the curb are not picked up without a prior arrangement with the Refuse Division. Book the haul-away appointment first, then set the furniture, appliance, mattress, electronics or tires out for the scheduled day.
Keep appliances, tires and building material out of the bins
City metal bins refuse appliances of any kind, tires and hazardous materials, heavy or oversized pieces, large metal, and building or roofing material. Overfill above the bin rim is charged per occurrence.

Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
