Two views of the same room corner: a treadmill on the left, and a small desk and chair in its place on the right.
A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Ready for pickup

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Your place. One easy pickup plan.

A house, a condo or an apartment. Choose an accessible outdoor spot that works for your property. You arrange the move outside; we take it from there.

Text us about your setup
  1. Check the route and the model.

  2. Book a day you can be ready.

Choose from the available pickup dates before moving the machine out. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. Book by 2pm at the pickup address for same-day pickup.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named in the city's trash definition or in the accepted list at the recycling centers, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed before it goes out. The definition does cover metal objects and other non-hazardous material.

City cost & eligibility
No published rate covers an exercise machine. Confirm acceptance and any charge with Opelika Environmental Services at 334-705-5480, and mention the motor, the frame and any electronics built into the console.
When & how
Call 334-705-5480 before the normal collection day. If the city accepts the machine, it goes out with the rest of the trash rather than in the garbage cart.
Get it ready
Describe the machine and its size when you call, and ask whether the weight of the frame changes the route, because the weekly limit is five cubic yards of trash and yard waste for the address.

Garbage is not trash in Opelika

Bagged household waste belongs in the 95-gallon cart, and everything else the city hauls is trash: limbs, grass clippings, furniture, appliances, metal objects and other non-hazardous material. Trash goes out on the same day as the garbage cart and is handled by the knuckle-boom trucks, so a couch or a mattress never belongs in the cart and garbage never belongs in the trash pile.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Opelika runs two full-service drop-off sites for the items the cart will not take, and the difference between them is the opening hours. The Jeter Avenue center at 675 Jeter Avenue, across from Jeter Primary School, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and takes appliances, residential tires, household paint cans of one gallon or less, cooking oil, yard waste and recycling. The 8th Avenue center at 600 8th Avenue, near the Denson Recreation Center, opens at 8 a.m. Friday and closes at 8 a.m. Tuesday, which makes it the weekend stop, and it takes the same appliances, tires, paint cans, cooking oil and recycling without yard waste. At both sites the material has to be loose rather than bagged, food containers have to be washed, and glass, batteries and electronics are refused outright. Household paint is limited to one-gallon cans and eight tires is the limit for a resident. Renovation material does not go to either center: construction and demolition debris, including rolls of carpet, is excluded from the city route and has to be quoted by calling Environmental Services at 334-705-5480. Choose all your items to see the combined price. Loading, transportation and disposal are included, with any applicable sales tax shown before payment.

Can you pick up a treadmill or exercise bike today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the equipment outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; we book a day rather than an exact appointment time.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?

Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.

How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?

Enter the combined weight in pounds for your dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Booking rounds that total up to the next 10 lb unit: 25 lb uses three units. Stands, racks and benches are separate items and do not include the loose weights. Add each one that is going.
