The local disposal guide
Prattville runs its own Sanitation Department inside the city limits. Household garbage leaves the curb once a week in the city's 95 gallon blue cart, yard debris leaves the same week on the neighborhood's designated day, and a bulk waste route handles furniture, mattresses, large appliances and bicycles. The ordinance is strict about how the two piles are prepared: yard debris goes into tightly sealed bags or cardboard boxes under 50 pounds, limbs are cut shorter than four feet, and bulk waste sits in its own pile beside the yard debris. One bulk item collection is included in the monthly sanitation fee, and anything bigger or more unusual has to be scheduled with the department as a special collection. Renovation debris, dirt, stumps and trees are not collected at all, and a television or computer has no published city route at all, so those loads end at the private landfill on County Road 4 after a phone call.

Furniture is one of the city's named bulk waste categories, and a sofa or lounge chair is set out as its own pile rather than with the yard debris. The monthly sanitation fee includes one bulk item collection, and the city's fee table lists a single item of furniture as the first item free.
Mattresses are named in the city's bulk waste definition and the fee table uses a mattress or bedspring as its example of the single furniture item that comes free with the monthly service. The unit is scheduled with the Sanitation Department instead of going into the garbage cart.
The ordinance puts large appliances in the same bulk waste category as mattresses, furniture and bicycles, while the city's trash page says a curbside pickup for items such as appliances has to be scheduled and paid for in advance, at a rate set from the current cost of disposal.
The city publishes no television, monitor or computer route. The bulk waste definition names large appliances, mattresses, furniture, bicycles and do-it-yourself construction debris, the Recycling Center list does not include electronics, and the landfill on County Road 4 takes non-garbage items from residents for a possible charge even though a private company runs it.
The city's trash program covers yard debris and bulk waste, and the definition of bulk waste covers large appliances, mattresses, furniture, bicycles, do-it-yourself construction debris and other bulky items. Yard debris and bulk waste have to be placed in two separate piles.
Exercise equipment is not named in the city's bulk waste definition, which lists large appliances, mattresses, furniture, bicycles and do-it-yourself construction debris before its catch-all for other bulky items, so the machine has to be approved before it is set out.
The ordinance excludes building debris from city collection. Scrap lumber, plaster, roofing, concrete, brickbats and sanding dust left by construction, repair, remodeling, removal or demolition, along with dirt, stumps and tree trunks, will not be collected and have to be moved privately, while small do-it-yourself construction debris still fits the bulk waste definition.
Yard debris counts as trash under the ordinance and is collected once a week on the neighborhood's designated day. Leaves, grass clippings and straw go out in tightly sealed bags or cardboard boxes, while limbs are cut shorter than four feet and stacked with all the tops facing the same direction.
The handoff matters
Household garbage goes into the city's 95 gallon blue cart, bagged, and the cart is placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the collection day, about 4 feet clear of any obstruction such as a vehicle, pole, mailbox or tree. Crews will not collect garbage left on the ground beside the cart, the cart comes back to the residence the evening of collection, and containers may only be placed out on the scheduled pickup day.

Limbs are cut shorter than four feet and stacked neatly with all the tops facing the same direction, leaves, straw and clippings are bagged or boxed in loads under 50 pounds each, and the bulk pile keeps its own clearance so the truck can reach it.

The monthly sanitation fee already includes one bulk item collection, and the fee table lists the first single item of furniture as free, while a larger load is charged from the current cost of disposal and prorated when it is smaller than a truckload. The trash page adds that a fee is payable in advance when it applies, and no special pickups are available during the week of a holiday.

A couch goes out as bulk waste in its own pile, not with the yard debris, because the ordinance lists furniture among the bulk waste categories and requires yard debris and bulk waste to sit in two separate piles. The monthly sanitation fee includes one bulk item collection, and the city's fee table lists a single item of furniture as the first item free, so call the Sanitation Department at (334) 595-0624 to arrange the collection.Official guidance
Yes. The ordinance puts mattresses in the bulk waste definition, and the city's bulk waste fee table names a mattress or bedspring as the example of the single furniture item that is free with the monthly service. Call the Sanitation Department at (334) 595-0624 to schedule the collection, keep the unit in the bulk pile rather than with the yard debris, and put it out by 7:00 a.m. on the collection day.Official guidance
Call the Sanitation Department at (334) 595-0624. Large appliances are part of the city's bulk waste definition, but the trash page says a curbside pickup for items such as appliances requires a fee payable in advance and scheduled with the department, and the amount is set from the current cost of disposal. Empty the unit and remove the refrigerator or freezer doors before it goes to the curb.Official guidance
There is no published city route for a television, monitor or computer. The Recycling Center's list does not include electronics and its bins take only cardboard and paper, so the route is the landfill on County Road 4, which accepts non-garbage items from residents for a possible charge and is run by a private waste company. Confirm acceptance and the price at (334) 595-0624 or (334) 365-4635 before the trip.Official guidance
The ordinance defines bulk waste as large appliances, mattresses, furniture, bicycles, do-it-yourself construction debris and other bulky items, and it requires bulk waste to sit in a separate pile from the yard debris. One bulk item collection is included in the monthly sanitation fee and the fee table lists the first single furniture item at no charge, so call the Sanitation Department at (334) 595-0624 when the pile grows past that.Official guidance
Household garbage and yard trash each come once a week on the day the city's collection map assigns to the neighborhood, and the ordinance allows collection Monday through Friday. The city publishes a GIS map of the districts and answers schedule questions at (334) 595-0624, and everything has to be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. because the trucks leave the sanitation lot by 7:15 a.m.Official guidance
The monthly sanitation fee covers weekly household garbage collection, recycling collection, yard debris collection and one bulk item collection, and it is billed by the Water Works Board on the water bill. The city published a rate step effective October 1, 2026 for the first container with a separate monthly rate for each additional city container, and there are senior and Social Security provisions that have to be requested through the department and the county.Official guidance
Call the Sanitation Department at (334) 595-0624 and ask for the bulk or special collection, because bulk waste is not simply set out with the weekly route. The monthly fee already includes one bulk item collection and the fee table lists the first single item of furniture as free, anything beyond that is charged from the current cost of disposal and prorated for a smaller load, and no special pickups run during the week of a holiday.Official guidance
The city does not publish a curbside or drop-off route for televisions, monitors or computers, and the Recycling Center's list leaves them out while its bins take only cardboard and paper. The landfill on County Road 4 takes non-garbage items from residents for a possible charge, so call the Sanitation Department at (334) 595-0624 or the landfill at (334) 365-4635 to confirm where the set should go.Official guidance
The property owner or the licensed company doing the work removes it, because the ordinance keeps building debris such as scrap lumber, plaster, roofing, concrete, brickbats and sanding dust, along with dirt, stumps and tree trunks, out of the city collection. A contractor load left at the curb can be charged a commercial fee, and a private hauler or container company, or the landfill on County Road 4, prices the load.Official guidance
Only bagged household garbage. The city provides a 95 gallon blue cart, crews will not collect garbage left on the ground beside it, and construction material, dirt, stumps, tires, trees and leaves or grass clippings in loose form are not part of the cart route. The cart goes to the curb by 7:00 a.m. with about 4 feet of clearance and comes back to the residence the evening of collection.Official guidance
