Indoor furniture and outdoor patio furniture are the first two items on Tolleson's acceptable bulk list, so a sofa or couch leaves on the registered monthly bulk pickup rather than in the container. Furniture is explicitly refused in the green container.

Register for that month's bulk pickup, then set the furniture at the curb by 6 a.m. on the zone day: the last Wednesday of the month for homes north of Van Buren Street, or the last Thursday for homes south of it. Nothing may be set out more than 48 hours before the service day.
Get it ready
Stack the pieces neatly at the curb and keep the whole pile inside the 3 cubic yard limit. Do not add chemicals, automotive parts including tires, batteries, an air conditioner, construction material or a refrigerator or freezer, because all of those are refused on bulk day.
The monthly bulk pickup is a registered service, so the sequence runs the other way round from a regular trash day: sign up with Field Operations at 623-936-7141 or through the online request tool first, then set the pile out. Homes north of Van Buren Street are served on the last Wednesday of the month and homes south of it on the last Thursday, with everything at the curb by 6 a.m. and nothing out more than 48 hours early. Crews work a tight route and cannot come back once they pass a street.
Bag it, tie it and leave the container where the truck can reach it
All refuse and green waste has to be bagged and securely tied before it goes in the container, because the city code and the Maricopa County Health Department require it. The container goes out by 5 a.m. on the Monday collection day, sits in the street in front of the house within one foot of the curb and at least ten feet from fences, street lights, mailboxes or other containers, with the wheels at the edge of the pavement and the opening facing the street. Lids stay closed, sidewalks stay clear, and the container comes back onto the property within 24 hours. A container blocked by a vehicle is not serviced.
