Confirm the local Goodwill policy
Goodwill organizations set their own regional donation policies. Contact the specific receiving organization before loading the rug or paying for transport, because acceptance by one region does not establish acceptance nationwide.

Separate area rugs from wall-to-wall carpet
A loose area rug and used installed wall-to-wall carpet are different categories. Ask about the rug’s dimensions and explain whether it is loose or previously installed. Northern New England explicitly excludes wall-to-wall carpeting, even though it accepts clean area rugs.

Prepare the rug before transport
Measure the rug flat, clean it according to its care label, disclose odors or stains, and roll it for transport. Not every stained carpet is recyclable or donatable.

When Dropcurb fits
Dropcurb fits when you have an accepted rug for removal: one loose rug 6 × 9 ft or smaller, or one larger rug rolled up. For accepted rugs already outside and accessible, Dropcurb handles loading, transportation and disposal. You can book before moving the rug, but it must be ready outside and accessible before pickup. If you need indoor carry-out, choose a service that includes that labor.

Frequently asked questions
Is used wall-to-wall carpet treated like an area rug?
Not automatically. Loose area rugs and used installed wall-to-wall carpet are distinct categories, and some regional Goodwill rules exclude wall-to-wall carpeting. Ask the receiving Goodwill before transporting it.
