Count the sections, not the cushions.

A loveseat, a sleeper and a sectional can look similar in a photo. Match the shape and features so your online price covers what is actually going.

Three structural sectional modules slightly separated, with all cushions remaining on their bases.
This example has three structural sections. The cushions do not add to the count.

A straight sofa or loveseat

Choose Standard sofa for fixed seats with no pull-out bed or reclining mechanism. One whole sofa is one item.

A sectional

Count its structural sections, not the loose cushions. Choose the piece count, then check for a sleeper or reclining feature. One sectional booking covers the configuration you select.

A pull-out bed or reclining seats

Choose Sleeper sofa or Reclining sofa for those mechanisms. A single reclining chair has its own Recliner choice. All sofa types also includes futons and sofas with a chaise.

Couches, sofas and furniture

Accepted with preparation

A couch leaves on the curbside bulky pickup. The hauler's Chico brochure lists furniture among the individual large items an account can put out, and the county landfill takes furniture as municipal solid waste for a household that hauls its own load.

City cost & eligibility
The bulky allowance is part of the residential rate rather than a free extra. The city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices an additional bulky collection at $73.81 for the first cubic yard and $20.13 for each further cubic yard on the same trip, so confirm what remains of the account's two pickups a year when the pickup is booked.
When & how
Call Waste Management at (530) 893-4777 at least 48 hours before the usual collection day and name the pieces when the appointment is made. Collection is not run on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Get it ready
Have the piece curbside by 5 a.m. on the collection day. A bulky pickup combines four cubic yards of loose material with three individual large items, so keep the loose pile inside that limit and leave tires, construction debris, medical waste and household hazardous waste out of it.

A bulky pickup is booked by phone and confirmed by the allowance

Waste Management runs the city's bulky collection, so the route is a phone call rather than an online request: (530) 893-4777, at least 48 hours before the usual collection day, with the items named when the appointment is made. Everything has to be curbside by 5 a.m. on the collection day. The account's annual allowance is what decides whether the pickup is included or billed, and the city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices further collections, further cubic yards and an item containing Freon separately.

Waste Management under the City of Chico residential franchise, with Butte County solid waste facilities and the Butte Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility

Book the curbside bulky pickup

A household inside the city limits with an active residential account and a couch, mattress, appliance, television or other large item that will not fit in a cart.

Cost & conditions
The hauler's Chico brochure gives each residential account up to two bulky pickups a year as part of the monthly rate, and the city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices a further collection at $73.81 for the first cubic yard with $20.13 per further cubic yard and $59.06 for an item containing Freon. Confirm what remains of the allowance when the pickup is booked.
Arrange it
Call Waste Management at (530) 893-4777 at least 48 hours before the usual collection day, name the items, and have everything curbside by 5 a.m.

Up to two pickups a year per account, each with four cubic yards of loose material and three individual large items, and tires, construction debris, medical waste and household hazardous waste are refused.

Donate usable household items

A household with furniture or household goods that are still usable and worth passing on.

Cost & conditions
A donation carries no disposal charge, but the store decides what it can take and when, so confirm the item and the drop-off hours before loading the vehicle.
Arrange it
Take the item to a store on the county's reuse list, such as The Arc Store at 2030 Park Avenue or the Salvation Army Thrift Stores at 700 Broadway.

The county lists these stores for household items rather than for every material, so a stained mattress, a broken appliance or a television needs another route.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Chico means driving out to the county facilities. Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility at 1023 Neal Road in Paradise is open every day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closes only on Easter, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, with Christmas Eve ending at noon. It takes furniture, carpet and pad, textiles, glass and ceramics, wood waste, sheetrock and drywall, and dirt, concrete, asphalt and rebar with recycling on site, while tires are handled as a special waste and car batteries, refrigerators and fluorescent tubes go through the scale house as hazardous waste. What it will not take is just as important: liquid paints and other chemicals, freon gas, air-conditioning refrigerant, antifreeze, used motor oil, gasoline, compressed gases, pool chemicals, ammunition, explosives and radioactive material. Payment there is cash, local checks or credit cards, with no debit cards. Household hazardous waste goes instead to the Butte Regional facility at 1101 Marauder Street at the Chico airport, which is free to county households that show a garbage or utility bill and is open Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a five gallon or 50 pound limit per trip. The county also lists mattress and appliance routes for households that would rather use a business: mattresses and box springs are taken at Neal Road or through a bulky item pickup appointment, and major appliances can go to retailers and metal businesses the county names, with fees that depend on the condition of the unit. County landfill for household loads, furniture, carpet and construction material

Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility

1023 Neal Road, Paradise, CA 95969

The county's dumping guidelines list municipal solid waste that includes furniture, carpet, textiles, glass, porcelain and ceramics, yard trimmings, wood waste, sheetrock and drywall, and dirt, concrete, asphalt, construction rebar and rocks with recycling on site, plus non-asbestos roofing and shingles. Tires are taken as a special waste, and car batteries, refrigerators and fluorescent tubes are accepted as hazardous waste with the scale house explaining the procedure. The county's materials directory also names this site for mattresses, box springs, major appliances, unpainted wood and carpet.

Liquid paints including latex and other water-based paint, freon gas, air-conditioning refrigerant, antifreeze, used motor oil and lubricating oil, gasoline, compressed gases, pool chemicals, pesticides, ammunition, explosives, radioactive material and friable asbestos are refused. Payment is cash, local checks or credit cards only, with no debit cards and no third-party checks, and the site cannot take fire debris that has not been screened for hazardous waste, so ask at the scale house when a load is unusual.

Every day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on Easter, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with Christmas Eve open from 7 a.m. to noon.

The county publishes a fee schedule for the facility rather than rates on the page, and the charge depends on the material and the weight of the load, so confirm the amount at the scale before a first trip.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Couch removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Chico.

How much does couch removal cost in Chico?

A standard sofa is $79 as the first item and $29 additional. Sectionals, sleepers and reclining sofas have their own choices. Select everything that is going to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can you pick up my couch today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the couch outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We send pickup updates and photos when it is done; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

How do I book a sectional for removal?

Open Sectional in the sofa choices, count its structural sections, and select any sleeper or reclining feature. Count the sections with their own bases, not loose cushions. The matching catalog choice covers one complete sectional of that configuration. Text a photo before booking if you are unsure.

Will you carry my couch out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. Arrange for the sofa to be moved through the apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load and haul it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Arrange any dismantling needed to get it outside beforehand.

Do I need to wait at home for couch pickup?

You do not need to be home when your booked sofa is outside and accessible. Add photos and pickup-location notes to your order so the right pieces are easy to identify. We send updates and completion photos. Confirm any building access restrictions with us before booking.

How does a couch get collected in Chico?

A couch goes out on the curbside bulky pickup that Waste Management runs under the city franchise. The hauler's Chico service brochure lists furniture among the individual large items a residential account can set out, and a pickup combines loose material up to four cubic yards with three such items. Book it at least 48 hours ahead and have it curbside by 5 a.m. A household that would rather haul it can take furniture to the Neal Road facility, where the county accepts it as municipal solid waste.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in Chico?

Waste Management collects residential garbage, recycling and green waste inside the city limits under the city franchise, and the city's environmental services line answers program questions at (530) 592-5541 or Recycle@chicoca.gov. Commercial collection was franchised to both Recology Butte and Colusa Counties and Waste Management in designated zones. County government runs the landfill and the household hazardous waste facility, which is why bulky, construction and hazardous questions cross between the city franchise and the county.Official guidance

How many bulky pickups does a Chico household get?

The hauler's Chico service brochure gives each residential account up to two curbside bulky pickups a year, each one a combination of loose material up to four cubic yards and three individual large items such as a television, furniture or an appliance. The city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices a further collection, further cubic yards and any item containing Freon separately, so confirm what remains on the account when you book at (530) 893-4777.Official guidance
