A mattress moves on the same bulky pickup that takes furniture. The county's recycling directory also names mattresses, box springs and futon mattresses at the Neal Road facility, so a curbside route and a self-haul route both exist.
City cost & eligibility
The bulky allowance is part of the monthly residential rate, and the city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices a further bulky collection at $73.81 for the first cubic yard with $20.13 for each further cubic yard on the same trip. The county publishes a fee schedule for the landfill instead of item rates, so confirm the amount at the scale or with the hauler before the mattress moves.

Waste Management runs the city's bulky collection, so the route is a phone call rather than an online request: (530) 893-4777, at least 48 hours before the usual collection day, with the items named when the appointment is made. Everything has to be curbside by 5 a.m. on the collection day. The account's annual allowance is what decides whether the pickup is included or billed, and the city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices further collections, further cubic yards and an item containing Freon separately.

Cost & conditions
The hauler's Chico brochure gives each residential account up to two bulky pickups a year as part of the monthly rate, and the city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices a further collection at $73.81 for the first cubic yard with $20.13 per further cubic yard and $59.06 for an item containing Freon. Confirm what remains of the allowance when the pickup is booked.

The county's dumping guidelines list municipal solid waste that includes furniture, carpet, textiles, glass, porcelain and ceramics, yard trimmings, wood waste, sheetrock and drywall, and dirt, concrete, asphalt, construction rebar and rocks with recycling on site, plus non-asbestos roofing and shingles. Tires are taken as a special waste, and car batteries, refrigerators and fluorescent tubes are accepted as hazardous waste with the scale house explaining the procedure. The county's materials directory also names this site for mattresses, box springs, major appliances, unpainted wood and carpet.
Liquid paints including latex and other water-based paint, freon gas, air-conditioning refrigerant, antifreeze, used motor oil and lubricating oil, gasoline, compressed gases, pool chemicals, pesticides, ammunition, explosives, radioactive material and friable asbestos are refused. Payment is cash, local checks or credit cards only, with no debit cards and no third-party checks, and the site cannot take fire debris that has not been screened for hazardous waste, so ask at the scale house when a load is unusual.
Every day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on Easter, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with Christmas Eve open from 7 a.m. to noon.
The county publishes a fee schedule for the facility rather than rates on the page, and the charge depends on the material and the weight of the load, so confirm the amount at the scale before a first trip.
