City cost & eligibility
The county does not charge residents for ordinary household trash and the city publishes no special pickup rate, so the person accepting the material confirms whether the machine rides a city special pickup or goes free to the transfer station, and what any pickup would cost.

Get it ready
Fold or tie down the deck and handles, take the console and any battery pack off so the electronics can be handled as electronic waste, and cover the load for the drive. Keep the machine out of the household trash cart, where it will not fit.
Kern County charges extra for an untarped or unsecured load, so tarp or tie down anything headed to the McFarland-Delano Transfer Station. At the site, stop at the gatehouse for the load check, take recyclables to the diversion area, take the rest to the transfer face, follow the speed limit signs and follow the directional arrows.

The McFarland-Delano Transfer Station opens Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so nothing can be dropped on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Every county disposal site closes for New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Only Kern County waste is accepted, and some streams are refused
Waste generated outside Kern County is refused at every county disposal site, and the transfer station will not take firearms or explosives, hazardous waste, hot ashes, liquids of any kind or non-friable asbestos. Anything out of the ordinary should be cleared with Kern County Public Works before it is loaded into a vehicle.
