Book the Escondido site at 760-745-3203 for one of its two Saturday appointments each month, or use the Vista or Poway site on a Saturday without an appointment. The free e-waste and shred events run 9 a.m. to noon on June 6, 2026 and October 10, 2026 at 639 E 17th Avenue.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep every device out of the trash, recycling and organics carts, and bag loose batteries separately. A single television or computer monitor can also ride the paid bulky item pickup, but the free household hazardous waste route is the one built for electronics.
Common batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, electronic devices such as televisions, computers, monitors, printers, VCRs, telephones, radios and microwave ovens, mercury containing switches and gauges, and non empty aerosols may not be placed out for curbside collection or put in any bin meant for solid waste. Paint is refused as well and goes to a PaintCare retail drop off, and lithium batteries have to be kept out of the recycling cart because crushed cells start fires.
The household hazardous waste drop off is by appointment only
The Escondido household hazardous waste site on West Washington Avenue opens two Saturdays a month and requires an appointment, which is booked by phone or online. City residents do not pay to use it, the load is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds, container labels have to be legible, containers have to be sealed, products may not be mixed together, and the material travels in the trunk away from passengers and pets. Business waste, tires, explosives, radioactive material and medical waste are refused.
