Furniture and other bulky waste is collected on a scheduled special pickup, with four free pickups a year at 64 cubic feet each, or up to twenty items a year scheduled five at a time.

Each residential customer and each multifamily building over five units is entitled to up to twenty total bulky items per calendar year free of charge, and cart properties are entitled to four free special pickups a year consisting of 64 cubic feet of material each. Hawthorne residents have two self haul routes worth knowing. Electronic waste and household batteries ride free on top of the recycling cart on the regular collection day, with batteries bagged.
