Scrap metal

Special rules apply

Scrap metal has no dedicated city drop, but the authority does take clean and sorted material. The Western Placer Waste Management Authority states that it accepts clean and sorted materials such as steel, cardboard, newspaper and mixed paper at the Materials Recovery Facility for free, with no cash refund, so separated steel can be dropped with the other recyclables. Metal that is not clean and sorted, or that arrives mixed into a refuse load, is outside that route and has to be confirmed first.

City cost & eligibility
The authority publishes the free clean and sorted route but no scrap metal price of its own, so call the city on (916) 434-2450 or the Materials Recovery Facility before hauling loose or mixed metal and ask how it is handled.
When & how
Sort the metal before the trip so the clean material can go in with the separated recyclables, and confirm first if the load is loose or mixed.
Get it ready
Separate clean metal from any wood, plastic, refrigerant or hazardous component before the trip, so the clean and sorted material can go in with the other recyclables, because mixed material is charged as refuse and hazardous components are barred from a refuse load. Keep metal out of the garbage can and out of the green waste bin.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Separate the load before you reach the scale

The facility charges most households by the cubic yard at the public scale houses and charges larger loads, dumping trailers and dump trucks by the ton. Clean separated recyclables such as cardboard and mixed paper are free, and household hazardous waste and e-waste are free for residents, while the same material mixed into refuse is charged as general refuse. Separate first and a trip can cost a fraction of a mixed load.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Lincoln means one address for almost everything, because the city's own collection is backed by the regional facility it shares with the rest of western Placer County. The Materials Recovery Facility at 3195 Athens Avenue in Lincoln is open for disposal Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day of the year with limited hours on certain holidays, and it charges most households by the cubic yard after measuring the load at the public scale houses while weighing larger commercial loads, dumping trailers and dump trucks by the ton. General refuse and construction material are charged the same rate, green waste and wood waste cost less, appliances and tires have their own per item lines, and clean separated cardboard and mixed paper come in free. The household hazardous waste drop-off is free for Placer County residents every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 15 gallon or 125 pound cap for each visit, and e-waste is free there too. The city adds two curbside conveniences that do not exist elsewhere in the county: a free electronic and universal waste pickup every Wednesday for items with a circuit board and a plug, arranged on (916) 434-2450, and a temporary 3-yard bin for residents with an active utility account. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Scrap metal removal, from your photo request to the pickup plan in Lincoln.

How do I request a scrap metal pickup quote?

Text photos to (844) 879-0892 with your ZIP code, approximate amount and access details. Show the whole pile and a closer view of the material. Our team will confirm the scope, quote and scheduling.

Do you buy scrap metal or pick it up for free?

This is a request for a paid removal quote, not a scrap-buying or free-collection offer. If you want to sell metal, ask a local recycler about its accepted materials and delivery requirements.

How much does scrap metal removal cost?

This service uses a custom quote. Send photos, the approximate amount, your ZIP code and access details. Our team confirms the scope and price before booking; there is no fixed-price catalog item for this pile.

Can you collect it today?

Tell our team your preferred day when you request the quote. Timing depends on the material, amount and access, and is confirmed with your quote. Sending photos does not reserve same-day pickup.

Where does scrap metal go in Lincoln?

Clean and sorted metal goes in with the rest. The Materials Recovery Facility accepts clean and sorted materials such as steel, cardboard, newspaper and mixed paper for free, with no cash refund, and refunds CRV beverage containers, so separated steel can be dropped there. Loose or mixed metal is outside that route, so call the city on (916) 434-2450 or the facility before hauling it.Official guidance
