A mattress or box spring counts as the one furniture item in an on-call cleanup, and the same piece can instead go to the mattress recycling yard on Patterson Pass Road, which the county directory lists as a mattress program site with free resident drop-off. The landfill gate also takes a mattress and box spring as a priced set.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included with the required residential subscription as the one furniture item under 150 pounds in each of three cleanups in a rolling 12-month period, or free to residents at the mattress recycling yard during its published drop-off window.
When & how
A cleanup goes out on the regular service day after booking at 925-449-7300. The mattress yard records weekday hours of 7:30 to 4 and residential drop-off on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. around the back, and the county directory asks households to call ahead to confirm.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry, lay it flat on the pile rather than leaning it against a vehicle, and send the mattress with its box spring from the curb. At the yard, follow the residential drop-off direction and leave commercial quantities to the appointment process.
Book the cleanup in advance and have it at the curb by 6 a.m.
On-call cleanups are collected by appointment on the regular service day, and the request has to reach Livermore Sanitation before that day. The material goes in the street against the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled date, at least 3 feet away from the carts, and never on the sidewalk or the driveway.
The waste allowance is 3 cubic yards, no larger than 9 feet long, 3 feet wide and 3 feet high, and it has to sit in one pile. Contain, box or bundle small and loose items, put glass in something solid, bundle and tie yard trimmings and wood waste, and cut pieces that run longer than 5 feet so the pile can be lifted safely.
The Vasco Road Landfill weighs and charges every load, adds an environmental fee on every load plus a fuel recovery fee, applies a one unit minimum, and charges extra for an uncovered residential load and for a hard to handle load that needs special handling. Clean separated concrete, brick, asphalt, drywall, wood and soil are charged at lower published rates than mixed debris.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Each cleanup carries one appliance or one e-waste item, one furniture piece under 150 pounds, and up to 3 cubic yards of contained waste. Hazardous material, construction and demolition debris, exercise equipment, tires, car parts and anything over the weight or length limits are refused, and multi-family tenants arrange the service through their property manager.
