  1. Check what your delivery includes.

If a new mattress is arriving, check whether your retailer is taking the old one. If you need Dropcurb, choose a day when you can have it outside. A delivery window and a pickup day are different arrangements.

  2. Arrange the trip outside.

Plan for doorways, elevators and interior stairs before pickup day. You arrange any indoor carrying. Use a permitted outdoor location and keep entrances and the walking path open.

  3. Make the right mattress easy to find.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses and box springs are accepted in the annual Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up, and Alameda County residents also have a free drop-off for up to five mattresses or box springs a day at the Davis Street facility.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The bulky pickup uses the one free collection a year per household. The Davis Street drop-off is free for the first five mattresses or box springs per day for Alameda County residents and businesses, with a per item fee beyond that.
When & how
Book the curbside pickup with Alameda County Industries on (510) 483-1400, or take the mattress to the Davis Street facility in San Leandro, which is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Set the mattress within three feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day and keep it dry and clear of the street and sidewalk. Keep mattresses out of the garbage, recycling and organics carts, and keep the load within the seven cubic yard single-family limit.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Set the bulky load out the way the district asks

Place items within three feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day and never more than 24 hours in advance. Do not block the street or sidewalk. A single-family collection is limited to seven cubic yards and anything beyond that is charged, so keep the pile inside the limit and stack it so that removing one item cannot topple the rest.

Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up page with the one-a-year allowance, scheduling blackout periods, the acceptable and non-acceptable item lists, the set-out windows and the size and weight limits

Watch the weight limit on everything except furniture and appliances

Items must weigh less than 75 pounds and be manageable by two people, with furniture and appliances exempt. Loose material should be bagged, boxed or bundled, yard trimmings and unpainted wood go in bundles no longer than four feet with pieces under six inches across, and tires must have the rims separated. Canyonlands residents coordinate a collection location with Alameda County Industries instead of the standard curb.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Castro Valley Sanitary District, with Alameda County Industries (ACI)

Book the annual Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up

A Castro Valley household with furniture, a mattress, carpet or an area rug, a television, electronics, an appliance, scrap metal, textiles, bundled wood or up to four rimless tires.

Cost & conditions
No charge. One free collection a year for single-family addresses of four units or less and for multi-family complexes of five units or more. Additional pickups and any material over the seven cubic yard single-family limit are charged.
Arrange it
Call Alameda County Industries on (510) 483-1400 to schedule, then put the load within three feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on the appointed day.

Appointments are unavailable in the first two full weeks of January and the first full week of June and October, requests at the end of the year cannot be guaranteed, construction and hazardous material are refused, and loose items must be bagged, boxed or bundled under 75 pounds unless they are furniture or appliances.

With a new purchase

Drop mattresses, electronics or construction material at Davis Street

Alameda County households and businesses with up to five mattresses or box springs a day, appliances and electronics, tires, carpet, or a construction and demolition load that needs certified recycling.

Cost & conditions
The operator publishes free mattress drop-off for the first five items per day and a per item fee beyond that, plus a general environmental charge on invoice charges, but it does not publish a gate rate for mixed or construction loads. Confirm the accepted material and the price before loading.
Arrange it
Drive the load to the Davis Street complex in San Leandro. The operator page carries the services and the program details; use it for directions because the page does not print a street address.

Mattress drop-off is capped at five items a day before a per item fee starts. Mixed wet trash is not sorted for recyclables, so separate recyclables and organics first, and commercial drivers need a safety vest and hardhat on site.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Castro Valley keeps bulky items on the curb and sends the material that must not go in a cart to a gate. The annual Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up takes furniture, mattresses, televisions, electronics, appliances, scrap metal, textiles, bundled wood and up to four rimless tires, and the hauler sorts it for reuse and recycling before landfill. Everything else needs a trip. Household hazardous waste and electronics go free to the Alameda County facilities, with Hayward at 2091 West Winton Ave. open Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Oakland at 2100 East 7th Street open Wednesday through Saturday, using Alameda County identification and staying within 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit. Mattresses can also be dropped free at the Davis Street facility in San Leandro, up to five a day. Renovation material moves in an Alameda County Industries debris box or to a district-approved permitted facility, because the curbside route refuses it. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Castro Valley.

How much does mattress removal cost in Castro Valley?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Castro Valley?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

Where can a mattress be dropped off in Castro Valley?

Two free routes are open. A mattress or box spring can go out with the annual Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up booked through Alameda County Industries, or it can be taken to the Davis Street facility in San Leandro, which takes up to five mattresses or box springs a day from Alameda County residents at no charge, with a per item fee beyond the first five.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in Castro Valley?

The Castro Valley Sanitary District franchises Alameda County Industries for recycling, organics, garbage and construction and demolition collection. Households get one free Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up a year, garbage, recycling and organics carts run on a weekday schedule, and customer service is (510) 483-1400 or info@alamedacountyindustries.com.Official guidance

When can I schedule the bulky pickup?

Book it with Alameda County Industries on (510) 483-1400, but not for the first two full weeks in January or the first full week of June and October, when appointments are unavailable. Requests made at the end of the calendar year cannot be guaranteed for that year, so schedule ahead. The load goes within three feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day.Official guidance

Is there a free mattress drop-off near Castro Valley?

Yes. The Davis Street facility in San Leandro takes up to five mattresses or box springs a day at no charge from Alameda County residents and businesses, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a per item fee beyond the first five. A mattress can also go out with the annual Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up.Official guidance
