Two views of the same room corner: a treadmill on the left, and a small desk and chair in its place on the right.
A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Ready for pickup

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Your place. One easy pickup plan.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named in the large item categories, which list furniture, appliances and electronic waste, so a treadmill or weight machine is confirmed with the hauler before it is set out.

City cost & eligibility
The large item service is free for up to five items five times a year, but exercise equipment is not a named category, so Waste Management confirms at (760) 439-2824 whether the machine counts as one of the five items and whether any charge applies.
When & how
Call at least 24 hours before the collection day to ask about the machine, then schedule it with the same large item service if it is accepted.
Get it ready
Describe the machine and its size when calling, tie or fold down the deck and handles, and take off the console and any battery pack so the electronics can go out with an e-waste pickup instead.

Book the large item pickup a day ahead, five items at a time

Call Waste Management at (760) 439-2824 at least 24 hours or one business day before the collection day to book a large item pickup, and keep the load to five items. Five collections a year are included at no charge for Oceanside residents, and additional broken or soiled items can be scheduled during the landfill weeks the city runs twice a year.

Carts out by 6 a.m. with the lids closed and two feet of clearance

Carts may go out from 4 p.m. the day before service and must be at the curb by 6 a.m. on the service day with the wheels against the curb and the handles facing away from the street. Leave two feet of clearance from parked cars, mailboxes and other carts, keep carts out from under trees and overhead obstructions, close the lid completely, stay under the weight printed on the lid, and take the carts off the street by 11 p.m. after they are serviced.

Construction waste, tires, chemicals and electronics stay out of the carts

The landfill cart refuses construction waste, auto parts, tires, household hazardous waste such as paint, oil and cleaners, medical and electronic waste and food scraps. A cart that is overloaded or contaminated gets a notice of non-collection, the resident removes the material and waits for the next collection, and an additional fee may apply, so the recycled and organic streams stay separate.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Oceanside is a curbside town: the landfill, recycling and organics carts run weekly and the hauler handles the bulky material too, so most households never need a drop-off trip. Large items, including furniture, appliances and electronic waste, are picked up five at a time, five times a year, at no charge, scheduled with Waste Management at (760) 439-2824 at least a day before the collection day, and broken or soiled items that exceed the allowance go out during the city's twice-yearly landfill weeks, when usable goods set out as donations go to the local Disabled American Veterans instead. Electronics have their own free pickup of up to five items five times a year, cell phones and household batteries need no appointment at all because they ride in a clear bag on top of the recycling cart, and food scraps and food-soiled paper share the weekly organics cart with green waste and end up as free compost and mulch for residents at the El Corazon Compost Facility on Oceanside Boulevard. The material that cannot go in any cart is paint, chemicals, cleaners, pesticides, medications, motor oil, antifreeze, fluorescent tubes and sharps, which travel to Waste Management's hazardous waste facility at 2880 Industry Street by appointment on one of the twice-monthly Saturdays, with a free monthly home collection for qualifying senior and disabled residents, and a rigid-container drop-off at either Oceanside Senior Center for sharps alone. Can you pick up a treadmill or exercise bike today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the equipment outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; we book a day rather than an exact appointment time.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

If it is accepted it uses one of the five free large item pickups a year, booked at least 24 hours before the collection day.Official guidance
