Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Two on-call pickups a calendar year collect up to twelve bags of household garbage or yard waste at no more than 50 pounds a bag, with branches tied in a bundle no larger than 18 inches by 3 feet, at least one week apart.
The handoff matters
Garbage, recycling and organics are collected weekly, and carts have to be at the curb by 5 a.m. on the service day with the contents below the rim and the lid properly closed. Garbage carts are the 64 or 96 gallon brown or black cart, recycling goes in the blue 64 gallon cart, and organics go in the 96 gallon green cart.

Holiday trees are collected at the curb when scheduled in advance, on the regular collection day, and the tree has to be undecorated and unflocked and cut into three foot sections with the stand removed, placed next to the organics cart. A low income and senior rate covers a 64 gallon garbage cart and includes weekly organics, recycling and garbage collection, and the current amount is the one published in the residential rate sheet effective January 1, 2026 that the hauler links from its billing and rates section. To qualify, the resident has to be 62 or older, be the head of household with income at or below the published limit excluding social security, and be approved by the City of Pittsburg water department.Official guidance
