City cost & eligibility
$55 for for each mattress or box spring taken to the Foothills Landfill, charged on top of the price of the load it arrives in. Any household load delivered to the landfill under the 2026 gate pricing sheet; the fee is additional to the vehicle or tonnage charge for the rest of the load, so a mattress in a car load also carries the car rate.

Take the mattress with a household load to the Foothills Landfill at 8900 Highway 93 in Golden, open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., or ask a private hauler for a bulky item pickup.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and tell the scale house it is in the load so the per item fee is applied correctly. Cover the load on the way, because uncovered loads are charged twice the load price.
Applewood is an unincorporated Jefferson County community, so there is no city collection department and no municipal bulky pickup. Households arrange curbside service with a private hauler, which is what the community association's waste page describes while it works on a consolidated program for the neighbourhood. Everything a hauler will not take has a county route instead: household hazardous waste and electronics to the Rooney Road Recycling Center by appointment, and household loads, renovation debris, mattresses and appliances to the Foothills Landfill in Golden.
A landfill load has to be covered and unloaded safely
Every load must be covered before arrival, because an uncovered load is charged twice the price of the load, and anyone who leaves the vehicle to unload has to wear a safety vest and hat, which can be bought at the scale house. Minors are not allowed out of vehicles and smoking is not allowed in the disposal areas. Hand unloading stops 30 minutes before the site closes, at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
