A mattress or box spring is accepted at the Front Range Landfill as a single item at the landfill's published per-item fee, which is the same rate the schedule charges for a couch. Weld County also names mattresses as one of the large items its free disposal voucher is designed to cover.
City cost & eligibility
$74 per mattress or box spring at the Front Range Landfill, on the fee schedule effective December 1, 2024. Any household delivering a mattress or box spring to the Front Range Landfill in Erie, or one free load under a Weld County large item voucher.
When & how
Deliver during scale hours, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. A hauler or retailer that removes the old mattress sets its own pickup window.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and tarp the load, because the landfill charges double for an uncovered or unsecured load and allows no picking or salvaging at the site.
Tarp and secure any load before driving it to the landfill
The Front Range Landfill requires every load to be covered or tarped so that nothing can fly out or become airborne, and state rules mean an uncovered or unsecured load is charged double at the scale. All vehicles weigh in and weigh out, and anyone who steps out of the vehicle has to wear a safety vest, which can be bought at the site.
Curbside collection in Firestone is a private subscription, not a town route
The Town of Firestone does not run a municipal collection route, so a household either subscribes with one of the haulers in the Town's disposal guide or takes the load to the landfill itself. The Town's guide lists local companies that collect bulky items, run roll-offs, haul residential trash and remove yard waste, and each one sets its own rates and its own list of accepted items.

Cost & conditions
No charge. A limited number of vouchers are issued to Weld County residents for one free trip, valid from March 2, 2026 through October 31, 2026, covering one truckload level with the bed rails or one trailer load up to one ton.
Arrange it
Pick the voucher up at the Greeley household hazardous waste facility, the Dacono facility or the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment in Greeley, then take the load to the Front Range, North Weld or Buffalo Ridge landfill.
One load up to one ton, and any extra weight or volume is billed to the resident at the scale. The voucher expires on October 31, 2026 and the county issues a limited number of them.
A private hauler collects bulky items from the curb
A household that wants a couch, a mattress or a load of junk taken from the curb instead of driving it to the landfill.
Cost & conditions
Each hauler quotes its own bulky item, roll-off and subscription prices. The Town publishes the list of companies serving Firestone rather than setting their rates.

There is no town rate and no town route to fall back on, and each hauler decides which items it will take, so confirm the item and the price before pickup day.

Couches, loveseats and sectionals, mattresses and box springs, white goods set aside for further processing, pianos without a computer, treadmills without a computer, tree branches and yard waste, concrete and asphalt, construction debris, clean fill and household municipal waste.
Electronic waste and televisions, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, tires, batteries, propane gas containers, liquids, mercury fluorescent bulbs and hazardous waste are refused, and any load can be inspected at random. Picking or salvaging is not allowed, and an uncovered or unsecured load is charged double.
Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Sunday plus New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, with earlier closing times on several holiday mornings. The site closes for high winds or severe weather and posts closure alerts.
The landfill charges household waste by the ton with a minimum on a light load, with separate published per-item fees for a couch, a mattress and a white good and flat fees for a car load or a pickup load. Confirm the current fee at the scale.
