Curbside bulky waste collection is a permit program. A permit is bought online or through All American Waste at 860-289-7850 by credit or debit card, used once within two weeks, and the collection is then scheduled with the same hauler.

The town publishes no bulky permit price on the bulky waste page, so confirm the current permit fee with All American Waste at 860-289-7850. Payment is by credit or debit card only, since the program does not accept cash or checks.
When & how
Bulky permits have to be bought and scheduled no later than 2 p.m. on the Tuesday before the Wednesday collection day, and metal permits no later than 2 p.m. before the normal trash day. Material may not be at the curb more than 24 hours before the scheduled collection and has to be out by 6 a.m. on the day.
Get it ready
One permit covers up to three cubic yards of bulk waste, which the town describes as about a standard pickup load, and a larger pile needs another permit. On one collection day a household may hold one bulky permit, one metal permit and up to three appliance permits, or two bulky permits with up to three appliance permits, or two metal permits with up to three appliance permits. Cancel with the hauler before 4 p.m. on the business day before the collection, because no refund is issued without a confirmed cancellation, and no refund is issued when the items at the curb do not match what was described when the permit was bought.
Connecticut has required mattress recycling since 2015, and West Hartford gives a household three routes: drop the mattress or box spring at the Yard Waste and Recycling Center with a permit, buy a separate bulky permit for each piece for curbside collection, or use a state drop-off location.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Mattresses and box springs are dropped free of additional charge at the Yard Waste and Recycling Center at 25 Brixton Street by a resident holding an annual permit, and the piece must not be wet. A curbside collection instead requires the purchase of a separate bulky permit for each individual mattress or box spring.

Arrange it
Buy an annual or day permit online or at the Public Works window, Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., then drive to 25 Brixton Street during the center's open hours. Residents load and unload their own vehicles.
