The e-waste drop-off takes microwaves and other small appliances free, but air conditioners and dehumidifiers are refused there and at HazWaste Central because of the refrigerant, and the City pages read here publish no route or rate for a refrigerator, washer or dryer. Arrange it
Take the material to 90 Sargent Drive in New Haven on a Saturday morning between mid May and October, and check the published seasonal schedule before the trip.
Seasonal Saturday hours only, and air conditioners and dehumidifiers are not accepted because of the refrigerant. Latex paint is not taken either, because the City asks residents to dry it out and put it in the regular trash.
West Haven residents can self haul in three places. Bulk loads go to the New Haven Transfer Station at 260 Middletown Avenue, open 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Saturday, charged by weight with household trash and garbage bags refused, and the station also takes mattresses and box springs for a fee it quotes by phone. Household hazardous waste, oil based paint, batteries and propane tanks go free to HazWaste Central at 90 Sargent Drive in New Haven on Saturday mornings from mid May through October, with air conditioners and dehumidifiers refused there. Yard material can go to the compost site at 1 Kimberly Avenue, which takes untied brush and Christmas trees until January 15 but not logs or stumps. Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
