A few pieces, one pickup

Your room has changed. The old furniture can go.

Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Curbside bulky items and appliances

Accepted with preparation

Bulky items including appliances go out at the curb next to the regular garbage, and a separate collection truck comes out within three business days when the piece will not fit the regular truck.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The bulky item pickup is part of the residential curbside service rather than a separately priced extra, and the county publishes no per item charge for it. If the item will not fit in the regular collection truck, the hauler notifies the home office and a separate collection truck comes out within three business days.
When & how
Set the item at the curb next to the regular garbage on the collection day, and call 239-533-8000 with questions about a particular item.
Get it ready
Keep the item within reach of the regular collection point, remove doors or anything that could trap a child or animal inside an appliance, and drain and prepare a water holding item so the crew can lift it. Hazardous chemicals, paint, pool chemicals and propane never belong in a curbside pile.

Couches, sectionals and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Couches and sectionals are named in the county's bulky item guidance and go out at the curb with the regular collection.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Furniture is bulky material collected as part of the residential service, with no published per item charge, and a separate collection truck comes out within three business days if the piece will not fit the regular truck.
When & how
Set the furniture at the curb next to the regular garbage, and call 239-533-8000 if the piece is unusually large or unusual in shape.
Get it ready
Keep the piece clear of the cart and the mailbox so the truck can reach both, and donate a usable piece rather than setting it out when a local charity will take it, because the curbside route is disposal.

Lee County Solid Waste residential franchise collection, with the Topaz Court facility for household chemical waste and electronics

Set bulky items out with the regular collection

A household with a couch, a sectional, a hot tub, a mattress, fence sections, an appliance or another large item that the weekly truck can reach.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Bulky item pickup is part of the weekly residential service rather than a priced extra, and the county publishes no per item charge. A separate truck is sent out within three business days when the piece will not fit the regular collection truck.
Arrange it
Set the item beside the regular garbage on the collection day, and call Lee County Solid Waste at 239-533-8000 with questions about a particular item.

No bulky item is a chemical waste item, so paint, solvents, pool chemicals, propane and other hazardous products still go to the Topaz Court facility rather than the curb. Up to two car tires a week can be set out, and a larger tire has to go to the Buckingham Road facility.
