City cost & eligibility
No charge. Daytona Beach residential customers, with appliances included in the twice weekly household garbage collection and a separate order required only for units that contain coolant. Over-limit or clean-out loads can be charged to the utility account.
When & how
Call (386) 671-8670 to request the appliance, and put it out beside the toter by 7 a.m. on the collection day, curbside next to the driveway.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, tape the doors or remove them where the item could trap someone, keep the load hand-removable, and keep a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioning unit out of the ordinary pile because the city orders those separately and requires the doors removed.
Cooling appliances are collected only on a separate order and with the doors removed, and the city publishes no separate amount for that service, so the charge has to be confirmed when it is booked.
City cost & eligibility
The city does not publish a rate for the removal of an appliance containing coolant. The FAQ requires refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units to be ordered separately from the ordinary bulky collection and collected with the doors removed, so confirm the arrangements and any charge with the Solid Waste Division at (386) 671-8670 before the unit goes outside.
When & how
Call (386) 671-8670 and book the cooling appliance on its own order rather than adding it to a bulky pile, then put it out on the day the division gives you with the doors already removed.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit, remove the doors so it cannot be entered, and keep refrigerant units out of any mixed load bound for the county sites, which charge by weight and take white goods only in the clean debris class. The county landfill and transfer station accept appliances but must receive them separated for drop-off.
Furniture, appliances and bulky items ride the household garbage service, but they have to be prepared so a two person crew can move them by hand. Glass mirrors must be card boarded and taped, carpets must be cut, rolled and taped in sections no larger than four feet by eight feet and weighing no more than 40 pounds, and residents may put out up to eight car tires a year while truck, tractor and other tires are refused and referred to the Tomoka Landfill. Appliances containing coolant must be ordered separately and collected with the doors removed, and concrete or heavy construction material cannot go in a toter at all.
The Volusia County household hazardous waste facilities sit at the Tomoka Landfill on 1990 Tomoka Farms Road in Port Orange and the West Volusia Transfer Station on 3151 E. New York Ave. in DeLand. Both take obsolete electronics including computers, monitors, printers, stereo equipment and televisions, household chemicals, automotive fluids and batteries, and both run a non-commercial paint exchange. The Tomoka Landfill also takes yard waste, land clearing debris, construction material, appliances and all types of tires, and it requires those streams to arrive separated, while loads that are unsecured, mixed or from out of county are charged double.

Arrange it
Call (386) 671-8670 to request the pickup or stack the item neatly beside the toter on a collection day, with toters out by 7 a.m. and everything curbside next to the driveway, clear of sidewalks and storm drains.
The load has to be hand-removable, glass and carpets need their own preparation, only car tires are accepted with a limit of eight a year, and coolant appliances must be ordered separately. Concrete, heavy construction material and anything from a contractor are outside the service, and a move out or clean out pile is removed as a charged service.

Yard waste, land clearing debris, construction material, appliances and tires must be separated for drop-off, yard waste has to arrive separate from all other material, out-of-county and mixed loads plus after-hours and unsecured loads are charged double the established rate, and asphalt, truck and oversized tires are charged at the higher tonnage rate. Recycled electronics are not available for purchase or trade-in.
7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday, closed Sunday, and open on holidays such as Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day. The site answers at 386-943-7889 and takes cash, credit or debit cards and monthly accounts.
From $38.78 per ton for Class I garbage or construction and demolition debris, with a car paying a flat 4 dollar rate, a pick-up or van paying 8 dollars, a 4 dollar minimum per transaction and vehicles over two and a half cubic yards charged by weight.
