An over-limit pile or a clean-out can be removed and charged to the utility account.
When & how
Call (386) 671-8670 to ask for the bulky item collection, then put the mattress out beside the toter by 7 a.m. on the collection day, curbside next to the driveway and clear of the sidewalk and storm drains.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and hand-removable, do not put it in a toter, and keep it separate from yard trash, which goes to the county mulching facility and must not be mixed with junk. A mattress from a paid renovation or a move-out clean-out counts as a charged special collection.
Furniture, appliances and bulky items ride the household garbage service, but they have to be prepared so a two person crew can move them by hand. Glass mirrors must be card boarded and taped, carpets must be cut, rolled and taped in sections no larger than four feet by eight feet and weighing no more than 40 pounds, and residents may put out up to eight car tires a year while truck, tractor and other tires are refused and referred to the Tomoka Landfill. Appliances containing coolant must be ordered separately and collected with the doors removed, and concrete or heavy construction material cannot go in a toter at all.
