Get it ready
Empty the unit and remove or seal the doors on refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers so that a child cannot be trapped inside, and keep oil, paint and other hazardous products out of the load because those go to the county.
Bulk waste is collected once a month on the scheduled day, with up to four cubic yards at the curb and the same five foot clearance from water meters, low branches, utility wires, mailboxes, cars and poles. Bulk must never be placed out on a yard waste day, where the city issues a notice of violation and fines apply.
Vegetation or yard waste of any kind, rocks and dirt, wood, glass, metal, car parts, construction debris including roofing, cabinets, doors, drywall, fencing, concrete, plumbing fixtures and tubs, tires, steel and hazardous materials such as oil, paint and toxic chemicals are all unacceptable in a bulk pile. Glass items such as mirrors and table tops are broken up, boxed and placed in the black garbage cart instead.
On the yard waste day set out the dark green cart plus one pile of no more than four cubic yards, with limbs, branches, logs and palm fronds cut to four feet and fifty pounds each, loose vegetation bagged or in the cart, no rocks or dirt in the cart, fruit in the black cart as food waste, and the pile five feet clear of obstacles and off water meters and low branches. Land clearing and tree removal debris is not eligible.
Batteries, chemicals, fuels, paints and certain electronics should never go in the garbage or recycling bins. The county authority takes them free from Palm Beach County residents at the Home Chemical and Recycling Centers located at each of its transfer stations, which also accept recyclables, and small businesses pay for dropping off hazardous waste.
