City cost & eligibility
The City publishes no separate rate for bedding and does not name a mattress among the bulk categories of furniture, appliances and Type III construction and demolition debris. A mattress is normally treated as household furniture, but confirm the item and any charge with the Solid Waste Division at 239-213-4700 when the appointment is booked.
When & how
If the mattress is confirmed, it goes out with the scheduled bulk date, at the curb by 7:00 a.m. and no more than 24 hours before it.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and wrap it so the scheduled crew can lift it without debris falling out, and set it out with the rest of the load rather than on its own so one visit covers everything. Ask when you call whether a box spring, an adjustable base or a bed frame counts as the same item or as separate pieces against the load.
Bulky items are collected only on dates the City schedules, so the pickup starts with a call to 239-213-4700 and the appointment has to be made at least 48 hours before the requested day. Nothing goes to the curb more than 24 hours before that date, and everything has to be out by 7:00 a.m. Set the load out together so one scheduled visit takes it all.

The City publishes no separate curbside bulk charge. The collection belongs to the residential solid waste service billed with water and sewer, and the amount appears only inside the dated rate sheets linked from the Finance billing and collection page, so confirm the charge with the Solid Waste Division at 239-213-4700.
Arrange it
Call 239-213-4700 at least 48 hours before the day you want, confirm the items, then set the load at the collection point by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled date and no more than 24 hours ahead of it.
The items have to be ones the City will take on the bulk route, and hazardous or liquid waste, tires and heavy steel are not part of it. A commercial container may not be used for appliances or construction and demolition debris either.

How do holidays affect pickup?+

The recycling drop-off centers are open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on county holidays, and the hazardous materials drop-off center at 3730 White Lake Blvd is the site for material that needs a special route.
