The local disposal guide
North Miami runs automated sanitation through Waste Pro USA, which has held the city contract since 2012. A single-family or small multi-unit household gets garbage collected twice a week, recycling once a week in the olive green cart, and a weekly bulk trash collection capped at eight cubic yards, all included in the monthly sanitation rate. The allowed bulk list is short and clear: appliances, furniture and mattresses, plus tree trimming done by the owner or a landscaper. Tires, glass, paint buckets, construction materials such as lumber, pallets and drywall and any hazardous waste are refused. Electronics and household chemicals never go in the carts; they go to one of the two Miami-Dade County Home Chemical Collection Centers, which also accept paint, pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks and small lithium-ion batteries.

The handoff matters
Carts may be placed at the curbside no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled collection day and must be returned within 24 hours after pickup. Household garbage has to be bagged before it goes in the trash cart, and anything that fits in the garbage cart with the lid closed can go there, including small bulk or yard waste. The olive green cart is for recycling only, lids must be closed with the arrows facing the street, and space must be left between the carts so the automated arms can reach them.
