Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

The city recycles computer towers, laptops and tablets as electronic waste and asks residents not to put them in the automated garbage container.
City cost & eligibility
The city schedules an electronic waste pickup by phone at 941-240-8050 but publishes no fee, so confirm whether the pickup is included in the residential service when you call Public Works. A county chemical collection centre also takes electronics such as computer systems and printers free from county residents.
When & how
Call Public Works Customer Service at 941-240-8050 to schedule the pickup, then set the items out for the collection day. The county chemical collection centres are an alternative for a self-haul trip.

North Port treats televisions, printers and computer monitors as garbage rather than electronic waste. A unit that fits in the garbage tote goes out with the weekly collection, and one that does not fit is scheduled as a bulk pickup.
City cost & eligibility
A unit that fits in the tote carries no separate charge with the weekly collection, while one that does not fit is scheduled as a bulk pickup, where the first two pickups each fiscal year are free and additional pickups are charged per cubic yard. Confirm the right route with Public Works at 941-240-8050.
When & how
Use the weekly garbage collection if the unit fits in the tote with the lid closed. Otherwise schedule a bulk pickup through the city's request form or by calling Public Works at 941-240-8050.
Get it ready
Keep the screen whole and keep the unit out of the recycling totes. Set a bulky unit out no earlier than 48 hours before the scheduled pickup and by 7 a.m. on collection day.
Bulk covers anything that does not fit in the garbage tote with the lid closed, exceeds the container's 200 pound limit or does not meet the yard waste guidelines, and the city names appliances, televisions, furniture and mattresses as examples.
City cost & eligibility

City of North Port residential curbside service. Estimates are available when the size of a load is unclear.
When & how
Schedule ahead with the city's request form, then set the load out on your normal collection day. Bulk placed in the right of way without a request is still collected but may draw a fee, and a yard waste bulk pickup counts as one of the two free pickups.
Get it ready

City cost & eligibility
Weekly curbside collection is part of the city residential solid waste service and the city publishes no standalone garbage rate. Container extras carry published fees: a new additional tote is a $133.10 one-time lease plus an $82.28 disposal sticker for the fiscal year, one tote size change is free each fiscal year, and further swaps are $39.93 per container. Confirm the current service charge with Public Works at 941-240-8050.
When & how

Get it ready
Bag loose garbage before it goes in the tote, keep the lid closed and remove bungee cords, and place the tote three to seven feet from the street edge with the arrows facing the street and five feet clear of cars, fences, mailboxes, trees and poles. North Port refuses construction and demolition debris in the garbage, so a project load goes to the county landfill's construction and demolition facility in Nokomis rather than to the curb.
City cost & eligibility
From $19.77 each load of construction and demolition debris at the Central County Landfill under the minimum, with the published per ton rate applied above the minimum. Central County Landfill, 4000 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis. Rates in effect October 1, 2024, and the county accepts only waste generated in Sarasota County, so confirm the current rate with the Sarasota County Contact Center at 941-861-5000 before hauling.
When & how
Self-haul to the Central County Landfill disposal area Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and arrive at least 30 minutes before closing if you unload by hand.
Get it ready
Wear closed toe shoes, and wear a safety vest and hard hat in the construction and demolition disposal area. Keep the load separated, because an unseparated load is charged double the solid waste tonnage fee, and keep garbage, carpet and padding, furniture, vegetation, fencing, dirt, clothing and household goods out of a construction load because the landfill does not accept those as construction debris.
Exercise equipment is not named on the city's bulk list, which does name other large household items, so the machine has to be confirmed before it goes out.
City cost & eligibility
No rate is published for exercise equipment because the city does not name the category. Call Public Works at 941-240-8050 and confirm whether the machine counts as bulk inside the free allowance or needs a charged pickup.
When & how
Confirm first, then schedule the pickup through the city's request form or by calling Public Works at 941-240-8050 and set the machine out on your normal collection day.
Get it ready
Break the machine down where you can, keep the load inside the allowance, and set it out no earlier than 48 hours before the pickup and by 7 a.m. on the collection day, clear of wires, low branches and poles.
Schedule the bulk pickup before anything goes to the right of way
Bulk pickups must be scheduled ahead with the city's request form, and a request that arrives after hours, on a weekend or on a holiday is not received until the next business day. Once the pickup is scheduled, the items go out no earlier than 48 hours before the appointment and by 7 a.m. on the collection day. Bulk placed in the right of way without a request is still collected but may draw a fee, and material set out early can draw a Code Enforcement violation notice.
Tote placement, arrows to the street and a five foot clear zone
Place the city-issued tote at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day and never before 6 p.m. the night before, with the arrows facing the street and the container three to seven feet from the street edge. Leave five feet clear of cars, fences, mailboxes, utility poles and trees, bring the tote back to storage by 10 p.m. on collection day, and keep the automated container out of the middle of the bulk pile or it will not be emptied.
Yard waste is collected once a week on the same day as garbage and recycling, but it is not part of the one-side-of-the-street rule, so it stays in front of the home at least five feet from the automated garbage tote. Bundle it, bag it in paper lawn bags or use a city yard waste tote, keep each bundle under 35 pounds, and cut branches to four feet. Mulch, sod, dirt, rocks, treated wood, lot clearing material and fruit are not accepted as yard waste.
Fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, pool chemicals, automotive products, paint and paint solvents, cleaning chemicals, sharps, unused medications, adhesives, fertilizers, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, propane cylinders and tires stay out of the garbage and the recycling totes. The city runs two household hazardous waste collection events each year, in Spring and Fall at the Public Works facility on W. Price Blvd, and county residents can also use a chemical collection centre.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
