Bulk covers anything that does not fit in the garbage tote with the lid closed, exceeds the container's 200 pound limit or does not meet the yard waste guidelines, and the city names appliances, televisions, furniture and mattresses as examples.

Schedule the bulk pickup before anything goes to the right of way
Bulk pickups must be scheduled ahead with the city's request form, and a request that arrives after hours, on a weekend or on a holiday is not received until the next business day. Once the pickup is scheduled, the items go out no earlier than 48 hours before the appointment and by 7 a.m. on the collection day. Bulk placed in the right of way without a request is still collected but may draw a fee, and material set out early can draw a Code Enforcement violation notice.
Tote placement, arrows to the street and a five foot clear zone
Place the city-issued tote at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day and never before 6 p.m. the night before, with the arrows facing the street and the container three to seven feet from the street edge. Leave five feet clear of cars, fences, mailboxes, utility poles and trees, bring the tote back to storage by 10 p.m. on collection day, and keep the automated container out of the middle of the bulk pile or it will not be emptied.
Yard waste is collected once a week on the same day as garbage and recycling, but it is not part of the one-side-of-the-street rule, so it stays in front of the home at least five feet from the automated garbage tote. Bundle it, bag it in paper lawn bags or use a city yard waste tote, keep each bundle under 35 pounds, and cut branches to four feet. Mulch, sod, dirt, rocks, treated wood, lot clearing material and fruit are not accepted as yard waste.
Fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, pool chemicals, automotive products, paint and paint solvents, cleaning chemicals, sharps, unused medications, adhesives, fertilizers, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, propane cylinders and tires stay out of the garbage and the recycling totes. The city runs two household hazardous waste collection events each year, in Spring and Fall at the Public Works facility on W. Price Blvd, and county residents can also use a chemical collection centre.

Arrange it
Drive to the Central County Landfill disposal area Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and arrive at least 30 minutes before closing if you unload by hand.
Closed toe shoes are required, and construction and demolition customers also need a safety vest and hard hat. An unseparated load is charged double the solid waste tonnage fee, and the landfill refuses dirt and soil, land clearing material, fencing, carpet and padding, furniture, vegetation and household goods as construction debris.
Self haul in North Port means the county. The Central County Landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis takes garbage, construction and demolition debris, yard trash, scrap metal and white goods and tires from Sarasota County waste only, with published rates of $60.85 per ton for solid waste and for scrap metal and white goods, $59.91 per ton for construction and demolition debris, $47.43 per ton for yard trash and $290.61 per ton for tires, plus $3.62 each for individual passenger vehicle tires up to five, and a minimum charge on small loads. Disposal runs Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., closed toe shoes are required, and construction debris customers also need a safety vest and hard hat. Hazardous products that the city refuses at the curb, including paints, thinners, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaners, fertilizers, automotive products, gasoline, used motor oil, batteries and fluorescent lamps, are accepted free from county residents at the Chemical Collection Center at 250 S.
