Electronics are listed as household waste at the drop-off facilities rather than as a separate free category, so the charge depends on how the load is presented: recycling is free, a convenience center visit is 5 dollars for up to five bags of household waste at 60 gallons or less per bag and 15 dollars for more than five bags or a bulk load, and the Main Landfill charges Class I waste at 3.1 cents a pound or 62.47 dollars a ton. Confirm how the devices will be counted when the load is presented.

Take the devices to the West Hernando Convenience Center at 2525 Osowaw Blvd. in Spring Hill, open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or to the Main Landfill at 14450 Landfill Rd. in Brooksville, open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both are closed Sunday, and both require proof of Hernando County residency.
Get it ready
Bring the devices where they can be seen for inspection, in an open bin or clear bag rather than a sealed plastic bag, because the County requires recycling and household hazardous waste to be clearly identifiable. Metal electronics may also qualify for the free metal recycling category, and personal data should be wiped before anything leaves the property.
Recycling goes in two sorted bins, one for paper and cardboard and one for rigid plastic, aluminum and tin, with no glass and no plastic bags. At a County facility, material has to arrive in original containers, open bins or clear bags so it can be inspected, plastic bags are disposed of separately, and proof of Hernando County residency is required along with help to unload because staff do not assist.

Construction and demolition debris is 3.9 cents a pound, or 78.47 dollars a ton, yard waste is 2.8 cents a pound, or 56.27 dollars a ton, automobile and semi-truck tires are 7.7 cents a pound, or 154.88 dollars a ton, and off-road tires are 10.3 cents a pound, or 206.50 dollars a ton. Recycling and residential household hazardous waste stay free, and from June 1, 2026 the former free 2,000 pound residential allowance is discontinued.
Arrange it
Drive to 14450 Landfill Rd., Brooksville, FL 34614, open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed Sunday and holidays, with proof of Hernando County residency and help to unload.
Radioactive material, biomedical waste including red bag waste, liquid waste and commercial hazardous waste are refused at every County facility, out-of-county waste is not accepted, and the load is weighed so mixed waste is charged at the higher category when it is not separated.
Bagged kitchen and bathroom trash, clothing and bedding, packaging, electronics, indoor furniture, yard trimmings such as grass clippings, leaves and small branches, sorted recycling including metal, and the household hazardous waste accepted at all locations: oil based and latex paint, used oil, fluorescent bulbs and PCB ballasts up to four feet, automotive and rechargeable batteries, sharps and unwanted non-narcotic medications.
Hernando County waste only, with proof of residency such as a driver's license with a Hernando address or an out-of-county license plus a TRIM notice, utility bill or deed.
