The local disposal guide
Spring Hill is unincorporated Hernando County, so the County runs disposal and Coastal Waste & Recycling runs the curb. Since January 2, 2026, curbside service in every unincorporated area has been twice weekly trash, once weekly recycling and once weekly yard waste, with the trash cart itself supplied by the hauler and nothing collected outside it. Large items are a separate scheduled collection: the County's bulk program takes furniture, non-freon appliances and other large household items that will not fit in the cart, with a published annual allowance that the same page states two different ways, so it is worth confirming with the hauler. Freon appliances, propane tanks, gas items and hazardous waste never go to the curb. For a load the curb will not take, the West Hernando Convenience Center sits on Osowaw Boulevard right in Spring Hill, charging five dollars for a few bags of household waste and fifteen dollars for a bulk or yard waste load, with recycling and household hazardous waste free, and the Main Landfill in Brooksville takes construction debris, land clearing debris, tires and anything oversized at published per ton rates.

Everything goes in the cart Coastal Waste & Recycling provides, bagged, with the lid closed and the cart under 100 pounds. Handles face the house, the arrows on the lid face the street, the cart sits about three feet from the roadway but not in it, and it needs three feet of clearance from mailboxes, parked cars and other obstacles with nothing overhead. Bags and debris left outside the cart are not collected.

Bulk items are a special collection, nothing goes to the curb until 6 p.m. the night before the scheduled collection, and the County states that additional items beyond the allowance require prepayment of an added fee.Official guidance
The County's bulk FAQ states six bulk collections with up to ten items per collection included each year, while the cost FAQ on the same page states four limited bulk items per year. Confirm the current allowance with Coastal at 352-540-6457, because the page publishes both figures.Official guidance

The County's accepted material lists name clothing and bedding and indoor furniture as household waste at the convenience centers, and the Main Landfill takes Class I residential household waste, but neither list names a mattress specifically. That makes metal the natural route for a drained appliance, while anything still holding refrigerant or fuel has to be confirmed with the County first.Official guidance
To the West Hernando Convenience Center on Osowaw Boulevard, which is in Spring Hill, or to the Main Landfill in Brooksville. Electronics are named in the household waste both facilities accept, so they are handled as a waste load rather than as a curbside item, and they cannot go in the garbage cart.Official guidance
