City cost & eligibility
$26.7 for the published monthly charge for a regular home on the residential rate table, which covers the every other week bulky collection that takes a mattress. City of Tallahassee residential waste management customers inside the city limits, including apartment service where the apartment rate includes bulky items.
When & how
With the bulky round on the Red or Blue week for the address, set out no sooner than the weekend before the pickup date and clear of the containers.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and wrap it so the crew can lift it without debris falling out, and add it to the same pile as the rest of the bulky load so one visit covers everything. Keep it inside the six by four by four foot limit, and confirm with the customer line if a box spring or an adjustable base has to be separated.
Bulky items and yard waste are collected every other week, and each address sits on either a Red week or a Blue week with its own pickup day inside that week, such as a Red Monday. The City publishes the red and blue week calendar online, prints a customer service guide that arrives by the start of each year, and offers an address lookup for the specific day.
A bulky item can be no larger than six feet long by four feet wide by four feet high and has to be something that will not fit in the garbage barrel. The City names appliances, small furniture, mattresses, lamps, bikes, chairs, tables, disassembled swing sets, plastic pools and barbecue grills. Anything bigger, or a pile that cannot sit at the curb, goes to a Cash for Trash event or to a special pickup billed by the quarter hour with disposal costs added.

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.
Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?+
You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. How much is an extra garbage container?+
The City publishes a monthly charge for an additional garbage container on top of the regular residential rate, a higher monthly charge for premium residential service, and the regular monthly charge for a home.
