Get it ready
Wipe stored data where the device powers on, keep cords and accessories with it, and keep electronics out of the city cart, which takes household garbage only, and out of the co-mingled recycling stream, which is collected in separated materials rather than mixed.
Liquid paint does not go into a landfill load. The county advises buying only what is needed, using or donating leftovers, and either drying latex paint out so the solid residue can go in the roll-out cart, or recycling a steel can that is empty, dry and free of paint residue at Albany Recycling Services, 1301 East Gordon Avenue. Batteries are refused at the landfill, so household and rechargeable batteries go to the Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful recycling drop-offs instead.

Materials are not co-mingled, so glass colours are separated and paper, cardboard, metals and plastics go in their own streams. Plastic wrap, plastic bags, Styrofoam, light bulbs, plate glass, mirrors, ceramics and dishes are refused, and office paper is taken only at the Meredyth site.
Self-haul in Albany means the Dougherty County landfill for anything non-hazardous and the Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful drop-offs for recyclables and electronics. The landfill is open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., closes its gates fifteen minutes early and for an hour one day a month for a safety meeting, requires every load to be covered or secured and commercial loads to be tarped, takes most non-hazardous material, and refuses herbicides, pesticides, gasoline, oils, batteries, tires with rims, hazardous and biomedical waste, with restricted non-hazardous waste needing written approval and a scaled in and out visit.
