$10 per mattress at the Clayton County landfill, where mattresses are limited to five per visit at $10 each in addition to the dumping fee, on a scale that charges $75.00 per ton with a $40 minimum or $40 per load for a light pickup or car without a trailer. Clayton County residents and business owners only, with a current driver's licence or business licence as proof. A mattress is also accepted at the city's Beautify Forest Park Day, which is free to Forest Park residents with proof of residency.
When & how
Take the mattress to the Clayton County landfill at 11678 Hastings Bridge Road in Lovejoy, open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the second and fourth Saturday closed from October through March, or bring it to Beautify Forest Park Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and separate from other material, because all trash has to be separated when it arrives at the county landfill, and note that the city's own Wednesday bulk collection is limited to items under forty pounds, which a mattress usually is not.
Bulk and yard trimmings collections are free but they are appointment only, so call Waste Management at (404) 794-6707 or book through the hauler's bulk trash page at least one week in advance, with no account needed. The Wednesday route collects up to five bulk items per house with each item under forty pounds, and items may go to the curb no earlier than one day before the confirmed collection date. Carts go out before 7 a.m. and come back in by 9 p.m., five feet either side of the mailbox.

Forest Park residents may bring anything for disposal except dirt, bricks, acids, unknown chemicals, flammable liquids and cement, and proof of residency is required. Car tires are limited to four per resident, paint dried with kitty litter is accepted, shredding needs at least three case ream boxes or three thirteen gallon bags per household, and no binders, electronics or other hazardous materials are accepted.
