The local disposal guide
Newnan runs its own sanitation department and contracts the trucks, so garbage and recycling come from Amwaste on a weekly city route and the bill comes from the City. The hauler uses a one bin solution, which means most recyclables ride in the same container as the trash, with plastic containers, aluminum cans and cardboard in and glass out. Large items are handled separately as brush and bulk, which the City collects as its own service, and the accepted list names furniture, rolled carpet, glass doors, homeowner generated construction debris and appliances, with a Freon removal tag needed for a refrigerated unit. Televisions, computers and the rest of the electronics are kept out of the trash container and routed to the Keep Newnan Beautiful recycling events or a retailer, rechargeable, lead acid and lithium batteries never go in the garbage while disposable batteries can go in the trash bag but are not recyclable, and mattresses and exercise machines are not named on any list, so those are confirmed with the department before they go out.
