Who picks up old washers and dryers for free?

Free washer and dryer pickup is conditional. In the Greater Albuquerque area, Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore offers free local pickup for approved reusable washers and dryers after a request and staff review. Costco may include one-for-one haul-away with an eligible replacement delivery in participating areas when the old appliance is ready at delivery. A municipal program or scrap yard may also accept the units, but confirm acceptance, pickup terms and any current value first. No route guarantees free collection or cash for every household appliance.

Check the free routes first

For working appliances, ask the Greater Albuquerque ReStore whether both units meet its approval requirements and whether local pickup is available.

If you are replacing the appliances, ask whether your Costco order qualifies for one-for-one haul-away. The old units need to be ready when the replacement is delivered, and installed or commercial items may be excluded.

For a scrap or municipal option, identify the exact facility or program and confirm that it accepts your washer and dryer, whether household pickup is offered, and what conditions apply. SA Recycling lists metal household appliances, but household pickup is not guaranteed and material values can change.

For a replacement bought at Costco, check the Costco appliance haul-away conditions on the actual order.

For working machines, compare washer-and-dryer donation pickup requirements.

Prepare two appliances before committing

Tell the pickup provider that you have two separate units. If a gas connection is involved, arrange professional disconnection and ask the provider to confirm the exact scope and fee before committing.

When Dropcurb fits

If the free routes are unavailable or unsuitable, Dropcurb handles loading, transport and disposal for accepted washing machines and dryers that are outside and accessible. A washing machine and dryer are selected as separate items, and current pricing is shown before booking. If you need someone to carry the appliances out from indoors, use a service that includes indoor carrying.
