Any household bringing material to the Bondurant drop-off during its posted hours, with the same items available by appointment at the Grimes transfer station except that Grimes does not accept electronics or televisions at all.

Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the garbage cart and the recycling cart, remove and set aside any battery the household can take out safely, and expect cathode ray tube televisions and monitors to be refused at the landfill's electronics stream, which leaves the hazardous waste drop-off as the route for those sets.
Two gates for household chemicals, plus a houseside option
The Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off at 1105 Prairie Drive SW in Bondurant takes household chemicals during its posted weekday and Saturday hours and is where containers can be poured off. The Grimes transfer station takes the same material by appointment only, keeps the containers, and does not accept electronics, appliances or tires. Ankeny residents can also use the houseside collection service on an as needed basis for a fee.
Metro Park East Landfill takes the self hauled loads
The landfill at 12181 NE University Ave. in Mitchellville is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. between April 1 and October 31 or from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. between November 1 and March 31. Small vehicles pay a flat rate by vehicle and larger vehicles pay by the ton with a minimum, and a load mixing material types is charged at the highest applicable rate.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Household hazardous waste, batteries, cooking oil, light strands, lawn and garden chemicals, automotive chemicals, household cleaners, gasoline, light bulbs, motor oil with oil filters, antifreeze, oil based paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, stains and varnishes, sharps in an acceptable container, small appliances, computer waste, electronics, televisions, fire extinguishers, paper for shredding, one pound propane bottles and tires, plus bagged compost, recycling drop-off and bottle and can redemption on the same schedule.
Most items are free up to 75 pounds per visit with a per pound charge above the limit, and specific items carry published fees, including small appliances, electronics and computer waste by the pound, televisions by screen size, latex paint by the gallon can, paper shredding by the pound, one pound propane bottles, fire extinguishers and tires by size. Sharps cost extra when they arrive without an acceptable container. This site pours containers off; the Grimes transfer station keeps them and does not accept electronics, appliances or tires.
Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, closed on major holidays.
No charge. Most household chemicals, batteries, light bulbs, motor oil, antifreeze and oil based paint are free to households up to a 75 pound per visit allowance, with a per pound charge above the allowance and published fees on the items listed in the restrictions.
Residential garbage, construction and demolition material, yard waste at the compost center on site, mattresses and box springs, appliances including refrigerators, freezers, ranges, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water heaters, furnaces, washers, dryers, dishwashers and microwaves, electronics and televisions that do not contain a cathode ray tube, tires and bulky waste such as telephone poles and unprepared trees.
Cathode ray tube electronics and televisions are refused, doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers before appliance recycling, loads carrying more than one material type are charged at the highest applicable rate, and payment is due at the time of service by cash or card. Bulky waste over 6 feet long and 18 inches in diameter carries its own per ton rate.

From $12 for the flat rate for a car load under 200 pounds, with vans and SUVs and then large vehicles at higher flat rates, and vehicles over 6,000 pounds charged by the ton with a minimum for residential garbage, yard waste, construction and demolition material and electronics, plus separate appliance, television and tire rates. Any household delivering waste to the landfill, with payment due at the time of service. A load that mixes material types is charged at the highest applicable rate, and appliance recycling has its own published residential rate.
