Televisions and monitors are refused at the scrap metal events, so they go out free during the Spring Cleanup week or at the curb with a sticker whose count depends on the screen size. Other electronics, including computers, towers, printers, fax machines, DVD players, VCRs, game systems and cell phones, are on the free scrap metal drop-off list.
City cost & eligibility
The two published sources give different sticker counts for a television. The city page says televisions and monitors go to the curb with a five dollar waste sticker, while the authority's chart prices a television or computer monitor with a nineteen inch screen or smaller at one sticker and asks for a telephone call to size anything larger. Because the amount depends on the screen and the two published figures disagree, the cost is confirmed with the authority before the device goes out.
When & how
Take a television to the free Spring Cleanup week on the normal garbage day, or set it out at the curb on the normal collection day once the sticker count has been confirmed with the authority. Take other devices to the free scrap appliance and metal drop-off event between 8 AM and noon on its published date.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from a computer, phone or drive before it leaves the house, and keep electronics out of the trash cart. Never take a television or monitor to the scrap metal event, because both are refused there, and keep electronic devices away from the Grimes hazardous waste site for the same reason.
Oversize items and extra trash go out with the Metro Waste Authority sticker attached, and the number of stickers rises with the item: one for a bag or box of trash under thirty pounds, one for a small television, one for a couch, love seat, desk, table, up to four kitchen chairs, a toilet base or tank, a window or a twin mattress, two for a queen or king mattress or box spring, and seven for a curbside appliance. Keep extra items at least six feet from the garbage cart, and call the authority to schedule an appliance pickup before it goes out.
Spring Cleanup takes one truckload, on the normal garbage day
Spring Cleanup is free to households that receive city collection, runs in the published collection week in the first days of June, and takes household items that do not fit the cart, including couches, end tables, mattresses, televisions, monitors, fans, lamps, grills with the propane tank removed, and carpet rolled and secured to no more than four feet by eighteen inches. The whole pile has to fit in the bed of one standard pickup truck or it is all left behind, every item has to be light enough for two people to lift safely, and items go out no earlier than 5:00 pm the night before and no later than 6:00 am on the collection day. Appliances, construction material, tires, glass, bagged or boxed items, propane tanks and hazardous material are all refused.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Use a large item sticker at the curb

Cost & conditions
From $1 for the smallest published large and extra item sticker, with the item counts rising to a seven sticker set for a curbside appliance. Available on the published terms for communities in the programme, with stickers bought online for delivery or at grocery and hardware store service desks and city halls. The number of stickers depends on the community, so the city directs residents to the authority to check their own requirement.
Arrange it
Buy the stickers, attach them to the items, set the material out on the normal collection day at least six feet from the garbage cart, and call the authority to schedule an appliance pickup before an appliance goes out.
The sticker programme covers what the chart lists, so household garbage inside the cart is separate and construction material, tires and hazardous material are not part of it at all. An appliance has to be scheduled by telephone first, and televisions need the count confirmed because the published figures differ by screen size.
