Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

The city collects waste only from its own containers, and the code says it has no duty to remove large or heavy items set out loose or outside a city container. A household cleanout therefore goes to the Bonneville County Transfer Station, which accepts household garbage, furniture, mattresses, carpet, bulky metal items and appliances.
City cost & eligibility
The county publishes its per load fees under a heading for in-county commercial waste and prints no separate resident rate for a household load, so confirm the charge for the load at the transfer station desk on 208-528-5550 before hauling it. The city's own container programme is priced separately on the sanitation fee schedule.
When & how
The Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The city's containers are emptied on the household's regular collection day.
Get it ready
Keep bulk items out of the city cart and off the kerb, because the city will not collect loose material, and take the load to the county site instead. Cover and secure anything in an open trailer, and bring proof of residency if the vehicle is registered outside Bonneville County.
Furniture is not collected from the kerb in Idaho Falls, because the city code says the city has no duty to remove items that are not inside a city container. The Bonneville County Transfer Station names furniture among the waste it accepts.
City cost & eligibility
The county prints its per load fees under a heading for in-county commercial waste and publishes no separate resident rate for a furniture load, so confirm the charge at the scale on 208-528-5550. Hauling furniture through the city's own container programme is priced on the sanitation fee schedule instead.
When & how
Take the furniture to 2455 Hemmert Ave during the Transfer Station's open hours, Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and avoid the six named closure days.
Get it ready
Keep the piece out of the city cart and off the kerb, remove cushions and anything loose so the load is easy to handle, and keep fabric covered in transit because the county may inspect the load.
A mattress is not a curbside item in Idaho Falls, and the county's inert debris site refuses it outright. The Bonneville County Transfer Station accepts mattresses and carpet alongside household garbage.
City cost & eligibility
No mattress rate is published by the city, and the county prints its per load fees only under a heading for in-county commercial waste, so confirm the charge at the transfer station on 208-528-5550 before the trip. The Hatch Pit refuses mattresses, so the load cannot be taken there.
When & how
Take the mattress to the Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Do not take it to the Hatch Pit, which refuses mattresses in its published refusal list.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the rain, and take the frame separately because the county lists furniture and bulky metal as their own accepted items. A mattress must never go on the kerb, because the city collects only what is inside a city container.
Containers go out before seven with room around them
City containers go to the kerb before 7 a.m. on the collection day, as close to the kerb as possible and at least three feet from any obstruction such as a mailbox, tree, shrub, building overhang or utility pole, with at least 14 feet of clear space overhead. Empty containers come back in as soon as practical after collection, and the container has to stay with the address it was issued to.
Yard trimmings ride in closed containers under fifty pounds
Grass, leaves, weeds and clippings no longer than four feet may be placed in cardboard cartons, bushel baskets, boxes or strong plastic sacks that are securely closed, and the city collects those non-standard containers as long as each one weighs no more than 50 pounds. Every other material has to be inside a city-provided container, so bagged household trash beside the cart is not part of the service.
The city leaves large items and renovation debris to the county
The city has no duty to remove dirt, earth or debris from construction, renovation or demolition, appliances and white goods, large or heavy machines, tree trunks, hazardous waste and waste oils, dead animals, or any waste that is not inside a city-provided container. Those loads go to the Bonneville County Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave or the Hatch Pit on N Recycle Rd, and the city code also bars private businesses from hauling or disposing of waste for profit inside the city, apart from licensed recycling businesses.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Order a bigger city container or a roll-off
A household with more waste than the 95 gallon cart holds, or a project that needs a 30 yard box.
Cost & conditions
From $42.72 for monthly rate for a 1.5 cubic yard city container with one pickup a week, with the same container billed up to 106.44 dollars a month for seven pickups a week, the 3.0 cubic yard container from 52.20 to 139.80 dollars a month, and 30 yard roll-offs at a 35.70 dollar monthly fee plus a per dump haul fee of 141.75 dollars for household waste only, 164.85 dollars for sorted construction debris, 164.85 dollars for unsorted construction debris and 306.85 dollars for a mixed load. City sanitation customers. Each roll-off dump also carries a county fee of 75 dollars, except a mixed household and construction load at 40 dollars per ton and unsorted construction debris at 200 dollars per dump.
Arrange it
Call the Sanitation Division on 208-612-8250 to set up the extra container or the roll-off and to agree the collection schedule.
The roll-off is ordered by load type, so household waste, sorted construction debris and an unsorted or mixed load each carry different haul and county fees. The city code bars private businesses from hauling waste for profit inside the city, so this is the container route inside town.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Idaho Falls.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Idaho Falls?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
Where do bulky household items go in Idaho Falls?+
To the Bonneville County Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The city code says the city has no duty to remove large or heavy items, appliances or anything outside a city container, so a cleanout does not go on the kerb. The county accepts household garbage, furniture, mattresses, carpet and carpet pad, bulky metal items and appliances, and it may inspect and reject any load.Official guidance
Will the city pick up a couch from the kerb?+
No. The city code states that the city has no duty to remove waste that is not contained in a city-provided container, and it names large or heavy items in the same exception list, so a couch does not go on the kerb. The Bonneville County Transfer Station accepts furniture, so the practical route is a self haul to 2455 Hemmert Ave, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Official guidance
How do I get rid of a mattress in Idaho Falls?+
Take it to the Bonneville County Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave, which lists mattresses among the waste it accepts, and go during its open hours of Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Hatch Pit refuses mattresses as well as carpet, furniture with fabric and household garbage, so it is not the right site for one. The city itself does not collect mattresses, because its code excludes items that are not inside a city container.Official guidance
Who runs sanitation in Idaho Falls?+
The City of Idaho Falls Sanitation Division, which is fully automated and serves more than 15,500 residential properties from its office at 380 Constitution Way. The division handles solid waste collection and disposal and keeps glass collection bins around the city with a published bin map. Sanitation questions go to 208-612-8250.Official guidance
What happens to collection on a holiday?+
The city publishes a holiday collection schedule each year, and when a holiday falls on a collection day the route runs one day behind for the rest of that week. On Labor Day, Monday September 7, 2026, sanitation ran one day behind. The Bonneville County facilities keep their own closures, with the Transfer Station shut on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day and the Hatch Pit shut on all federal holidays.Official guidance
Can I hire someone to haul my waste away?+
Inside the city, a private business may not haul or dispose of waste for profit, because City Code section 8-6-17 makes that unlawful and leaves only licensed recycling businesses, salvage yards and second-hand dealers free to handle material for recycling. That is why the local route for a large load is the city's own larger container or 30 yard roll-off from the Sanitation Division on 208-612-8250, together with a self haul to the Bonneville County facilities.Official guidance
