Couch & furniture removal in Idaho FallsCity collection Furniture is not collected from the kerb in Idaho Falls, because the city code says the city has no duty to remove items that are not inside a city container. The Bonneville County Transfer Station names furniture among the waste it accepts. The county prints its per load fees under a heading for in-county commercial waste and publishes no separate resident rate for a furniture load, so confirm the charge at the scale on 208-528-5550. Hauling furniture through the city's own container programme is priced on the sanitation fee schedule instead.

The local disposal guide
Idaho Falls runs its own Sanitation Division, and the city code draws a firm line around what the truck will take: waste has to be inside a city container, and the city has no duty to pick up construction debris, appliances, large or heavy machines, tree trunks, hazardous material or anything set out loose. That means big household items travel to the Bonneville County Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave, which names furniture, mattresses, carpet, bulky metal items and appliances among the things it accepts and publishes per item fees for anything holding refrigerant and per size fees for tires. Renovation material goes to the county Hatch Pit on N Recycle Rd, an inert debris site that takes concrete, brick, drywall, soil, wood and flattened cardboard, requires demolition loads to arrive with abatement paperwork showing no asbestos, and refuses anything with fabric in it. The city's own container programme is the local answer for volume: a larger cart, a 1.5 or 3 cubic yard container, or a 30 yard roll-off that can be ordered for household waste or for separated construction debris. Cardboard is the recycled stream the city left behind when it stopped accepting recycling other than glass in January 2024, so flattened boxes go to the Hatch Pit or into a business cardboard container from Western Recycling.

Yard trimmings have their own allowance in the city code: grass, leaves, weeds and clippings no longer than four feet may go into cardboard cartons, baskets, boxes or strong plastic sacks that are securely closed, and the city will take those non-standard containers as long as each one stays under 50 pounds. The city also runs a curbside leaf collection each autumn.
Tires are not a city collection stream. Bonneville County takes them at the Transfer Station with a published fee for each size, and the Hatch Pit refuses them, while Idaho law requires waste tires to go to an approved site.
Cardboard is not in the city programme: since January 16, 2024 the city has accepted no recycling other than glass. Flattened boxes can go into a sorted load at the Hatch Pit, and a business cardboard container or baled pickup comes from Western Recycling.
Metal is accepted at both county sites. The Transfer Station lists bulky metal items, and the Hatch Pit takes metal of all kinds except items containing refrigerant, which it sends to the Transfer Station.

The handoff matters
City containers go to the kerb before 7 a.m. on the collection day, as close to the kerb as possible and at least three feet from any obstruction such as a mailbox, tree, shrub, building overhang or utility pole, with at least 14 feet of clear space overhead. Empty containers come back in as soon as practical after collection, and the container has to stay with the address it was issued to.

Every other material has to be inside a city-provided container, so bagged household trash beside the cart is not part of the service.

To the Bonneville County Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The city code says the city has no duty to remove large or heavy items, appliances or anything outside a city container, so a cleanout does not go on the kerb. The county accepts household garbage, furniture, mattresses, carpet and carpet pad, bulky metal items and appliances, and it may inspect and reject any load.Official guidance
No. The city code states that the city has no duty to remove waste that is not contained in a city-provided container, and it names large or heavy items in the same exception list, so a couch does not go on the kerb. The Bonneville County Transfer Station accepts furniture, so the practical route is a self haul to 2455 Hemmert Ave, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Official guidance
No. Idaho Falls City Code names appliances including white goods among the waste the city has no duty to remove, and it requires waste to be inside a city-provided container. Take the machine to the Bonneville County Transfer Station at 2455 Hemmert Ave instead, where appliances are accepted and anything holding refrigerant carries a published per item fee that the county sets separately for small and large units.Official guidance
Bonneville County charges by tire size at the Transfer Station, from the motorcycle rate up through automobile, light truck or UTV tires up to 19.5 inches, semi truck tires from 19.5 to 24.5 inches and farm implement tires from 25 to 50 inches, with a separate per ton rate for bulk disposal. The full scale is published on the county's tire fee table, and no earth moving equipment or tracks are accepted. Rims may stay on. Idaho law requires waste tires to go to an approved site, limits how many may be stored at one property and sets an illegal dumping penalty for each tire.Official guidance
The city stopped accepting recycling other than glass on January 16, 2024, so cardboard is not part of the city programme. Flattened boxes are accepted at the Bonneville County Hatch Pit on N Recycle Rd inside a sorted load, where a sorted load pays the lower published rate and the same load unsorted pays more. Western Recycling, at 3909 N 15th E, runs a business cardboard programme with a six yard frontload container or a baled pickup, and its residential curbside service covers mixed paper, number 1 and number 2 plastic bottles and tin and aluminum cans rather than cardboard.Official guidance
The City of Idaho Falls Sanitation Division, which is fully automated and serves more than 15,500 residential properties from its office at 380 Constitution Way. The division handles solid waste collection and disposal and keeps glass collection bins around the city with a published bin map. Sanitation questions go to 208-612-8250.Official guidance
The city publishes a holiday collection schedule each year, and when a holiday falls on a collection day the route runs one day behind for the rest of that week. On Labor Day, Monday September 7, 2026, sanitation ran one day behind. The Bonneville County facilities keep their own closures, with the Transfer Station shut on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day and the Hatch Pit shut on all federal holidays.Official guidance
Only glass. Since January 16, 2024 the city has been unable to accept recycling other than glass, and it keeps collection bins around the city with an interactive map. Curbside recycling is a separate paid service from Western Recycling covering mixed paper, number 1 and number 2 plastic bottles and tin and aluminum cans, and E Cyclers of Idaho offers free electronics recycling in Idaho Falls.Official guidance
Chemicals never go in a cart or on the kerb. The city code names hazardous waste, toxic chemicals and waste oils among the material it has no duty to collect. Bonneville County takes solidified latex paint at the Transfer Station on 2455 Hemmert Ave, and motor oil and antifreeze are accepted there up to five gallons each on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with personnel on hand. Ask the county on 208-528-5550 for the current household hazardous waste programme before hauling chemicals.Official guidance
Inside the city, a private business may not haul or dispose of waste for profit, because City Code section 8-6-17 makes that unlawful and leaves only licensed recycling businesses, salvage yards and second-hand dealers free to handle material for recycling. That is why the local route for a large load is the city's own larger container or 30 yard roll-off from the Sanitation Division on 208-612-8250, together with a self haul to the Bonneville County facilities.Official guidance
