A plan for your pile

Finishing the project should include clearing the debris.

Mixed renovation material is hard to describe as one item. A photo-led quote gives you a specific plan for the pile left behind.

Your quote

A quote based on what is actually there.

Send a photo of the whole pile and a close-up of the material. Include its approximate size, your ZIP code and a view of the access.

Mixed or heavy project debris.

Request a quote for the actual materials and quantity. A generic debris-pile price cannot establish the scope of your project.

Already in contractor bags?

The separate contractor-bag item can cover carryable bags of debris at 50 lb or less each, with no dirt or gravel. Describe uncertain contents to our team before choosing it.

Unknown or hazardous material.

Flag unknown contents, chemicals and suspected hazardous materials in your request. A photo request is not acceptance of every material, and this service does not promise remediation or demolition.

  3. Show the pickup access.

Include the location, ZIP code and a photo of the route from the street to the material. Mention stairs, gates, loading docks or limited access hours.

Construction and demolition debris

Special rules apply

Construction debris is named as an item that needs a special pickup with an estimate, and the hauler also offers roll-off and construction dumpsters.

City cost & eligibility
The program names construction debris among the items that require a special pickup because they need additional labor or equipment, and it publishes no rate for that load on the page. The hauler also offers open top containers, roll-offs and construction dumpsters for home projects, which are quoted separately. Request the estimate from LRS at 844-633-3577 or Service@LRSrecycles.com.
When & how
Arrange the special pickup or the container with LRS before the project produces debris, because construction debris cannot go out as an ordinary bulk item or in the refuse cart.
Get it ready
Keep the material out of the carts and away from the yard waste stream, keep the load containerized or bundled so it can be handled safely, and ask LRS which container size or special pickup arrangement fits the load.

Get a special pickup or container estimate

A household or contractor with construction debris, a piano, a sofa sleeper or another load needing extra labor or equipment.

Cost & conditions
The hauler publishes no rate for a special pickup or for a roll-off, open top or construction container, because the price depends on the load and the equipment. LRS also notes that an item over 50 pounds may require a special pickup rather than the standard bulk item. Request the estimate at 844-633-3577 or by emailing a description and photo to Service@LRSrecycles.com rather than assuming the standard bulk allowance covers it.
Arrange it
Contact LRS with a description and a photo of the material before the collection day or the project start, and arrange the container or the special pickup directly.

The standard bulk allowance covers one ordinary item a week and does not extend to construction debris or to items needing special equipment, so a load like that is quoted separately.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

DeKalb's routes run through the hauler and through state and county programs rather than a city drop-off yard. LRS collects one bulk item a week free with the carts and charges a prepaid amount for each additional item, and it takes appliances only when they are prescheduled, electronic waste on a requested monthly collection day, and household hazardous waste through a home collection scheduled directly with the resident. Outside the hauler, the City points residents at the Illinois EPA regional household hazardous waste sites, which take the material at no charge, with two regional sites, one in Naperville and one in Rockford, that keep weekend hours. Used motor oil follows the Illinois EPA site and the health department's periodic collections, and liquid latex paint waits for the health department's annual collection while dry paint and its container may go in the regular trash. Prescription medications go to the DeKalb Police Department's 24 hour drop box in the front lobby, plastic bags go to participating grocery stores, and electronics are banned from Illinois landfills, which is why the monthly collection exists. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from your photo request to the pickup plan in DeKalb.

Can I book a mixed debris pile online at one price?

Request a custom quote instead. Send photos of the materials, approximate pile dimensions, your ZIP code and access details. The team confirms the work and price before you commit.

What if my debris is already in contractor bags?

Each carryable contractor bag at 50 lb or less, containing no dirt or gravel, has its own catalog option. Do not use a bag count for an unbagged pile or unknown material. Text a photo if you are unsure.

Does pickup include demolition or removing installed materials?

No demolition or disconnection work is automatically included. Describe the current state and access in your quote request so the team can confirm the work it can arrange.

How much does construction debris removal cost?

This service uses a custom quote. Send photos, the approximate amount, your ZIP code and access details. Our team confirms the scope and price before booking; there is no fixed-price catalog item for this pile.

Can you collect it today?

Tell our team your preferred day when you request the quote. Timing depends on the material, amount and access, and is confirmed with your quote. Sending photos does not reserve same-day pickup.

How do I clear construction debris in DeKalb?

Construction debris is named as an item that requires a special pickup with an estimate, so it does not go out as a normal bulk item. LRS also offers open top containers, roll-offs and construction dumpsters for home projects. Call 844-633-3577 or email Service@LRSrecycles.com for the estimate.Official guidance

Can construction material go in the garbage cart?

No. The bulk list treats construction debris as a special pickup rather than a normal bulk item, and the container rules are built around household refuse and recyclables. A project load goes through a roll-off, a construction dumpster or the special pickup instead.Official guidance

How is DeKalb's trash service set up?

The City contracts LRS as the exclusive collector for homes receiving weekly curbside or alley service, and the service is paid through the City utility bill. Refuse, recycling, yard waste and organics all run on one weekly collection day, Wednesday through Friday by address, with everything out by 6 a.m.Official guidance

What is the fastest way to clear a house in DeKalb?

Use the free weekly bulk item for furniture, a mattress or a bed frame, wrap each mattress and box spring in plastic, and prepay additional items for the same week. Appliances have to be prescheduled, electronics wait for the monthly requested collection, and hazardous material goes through the home collection, with construction debris needing its own special pickup estimate.Official guidance

What happens to Christmas trees?

Real trees are collected on the collection day during the first two weeks of January at no charge. The tree should be bare of bags, tinsel, lights, ornaments, wire and glitter and preferably cut under seven feet, and it will not be collected if it is frozen to the ground. After January 15 prepayment and prescheduling are required.Official guidance

What do I do with leftover paint?

Oil based paint and flammable oils go through the household hazardous waste home collection or a state regional site. Dry latex paint and its container may go in the regular trash, but liquid latex paint may not be taken by haulers and is saved for the health department's annual latex paint collection, usually in the summer.Official guidance

Where do old medications go?

To the DeKalb Police Department's 24 hour drop box in the front lobby, which the City lists as the route for prescription medications.Official guidance
