Two views of the same room corner: a treadmill on the left, and a small desk and chair in its place on the right.
A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Ready for pickup

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Your place. One easy pickup plan.

A house, a condo or an apartment. Choose an accessible outdoor spot that works for your property. You arrange the move outside; we take it from there.

  1. Check the route and the model.

  2. Book a day you can be ready.

Choose from the available pickup dates before moving the machine out. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. Book by 2pm at the pickup address for same-day pickup.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is named nowhere in the city or district material, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed before it goes out, and it cannot go in the cart because the carts take kitchen garbage only.

City cost & eligibility
No published entry or rate covers an exercise machine, so call the Street Department special pick-up line at 853-6431 and confirm the item and the cost before setting it out.
When & how
Ask before the machine goes to the curb, and keep it off the alley line until the pickup is agreed.
Get it ready
Describe the machine and its weight when calling, break it down so two people can handle it, and keep it out of the cart because miscellaneous junk and non-kitchen material are banned there.
City sanitation page with the Conkey Street address and hours, the kitchen-garbage cart rules, the yard waste bag rules and season, the private dumpster requirement for businesses and larger apartment buildings, the cart prices, the banned trash item list, the Street Department special pick-up line and the dried water based paint rule

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

The banned list drives everything else

Human feces, brake fluid, animal carcasses, gasoline, cement, oil, wood, bleach, sand, ammonia, dirt, pool chemicals, sod, branches, oil based paint, roofing shingles, yard waste and miscellaneous junk are all banned from the green carts. The city says some of those items can be picked up by the Street Department through a special pick-up arranged at 853-6431 and that others can only be dropped at a Lake County hazardous waste drop-off between April and October.

City of Hammond Sanitation Department and the Lake County Solid Waste Management District

Arrange a Street Department special pick-up

A household with furniture, a mattress, an appliance, exercise equipment or another banned item that cannot go in the cart.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no rate for the special pick-up, so confirm the item and the cost at 853-6431 before relying on the collection.
Arrange it
Put the material out and call the Street Department at 853-6431, which is the process the city describes for the banned items it can collect.

Only some banned items can be collected this way, construction material is not promised through it, and nothing should sit on the alley line for long because code enforcement cites for improper piles.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Hammond collects through its own Sanitation Department at 601 Conkey Street rather than a private hauler. The cart takes kitchen garbage only, bagged in plastic, under 50 pounds, out the night before collection, and the city sells additional carts and replacement carts, with the current prices and the police case number rule confirmed at the sanitation office. Yard waste goes out in 30 gallon biodegradable paper bags on the same day between the first week of April and the last week of November and must contain only leaves, grass, plants or twigs. Everything else is banned from the cart, and the city's list reads like a warning: cement, wood, dirt, sod, branches, roofing shingles, gasoline, oil, brake fluid, ammonia, bleach, pool chemicals, oil based paint and miscellaneous junk. Two routes take that material. The Street Department can arrange a special pick-up by phone at 853-6431 for some banned items, and Lake County Solid Waste Management runs household hazardous waste collections across the county monthly from March through October for Lake County residents, including the Hammond collection at 601 Conkey St. on Saturday September 12 from 9am to 2pm, where antifreeze, fuels, batteries, oil based paint, propane, solvents and sharps are accepted while latex paint, asbestos and auto batteries are refused. Electronics and appliances move through separate district programmes for televisions, computers, fridges, microwaves and washers, and construction material has no public route at all, so renovation loads are arranged privately and businesses or buildings with three or more apartments must hold their own dumpster contract. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Exercise equipment removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Hammond.

How much does exercise equipment removal cost in Hammond?

A household treadmill is $159 as the first item and $85 additional. An elliptical is $159 first and $85 additional; an exercise bike is $119 first and $40 additional. Choose all your items to see the combined price. Loading, transportation and disposal are included, with any applicable sales tax shown before payment.

Can you pick up a treadmill or exercise bike today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the equipment outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; we book a day rather than an exact appointment time.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?

Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.

How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?

Enter the combined weight in pounds for your dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Booking rounds that total up to the next 10 lb unit: 25 lb uses three units. Stands, racks and benches are separate items and do not include the loose weights. Add each one that is going.

Will Hammond collect a treadmill?

Exercise equipment is not named on the city's banned list or anywhere in the district material, so call the Street Department special pick-up line at 853-6431 and confirm the machine before it goes out. It cannot go in the city cart, which is for kitchen garbage only and is limited to 50 pounds.Official guidance
