You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.

Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Furniture and other items too large for the rollout container are pay piles, collected on Thursdays and Fridays for a minimum fee added to the water bill.
City cost & eligibility
From $25 for minimum fee for a pay pile, added to the water bill, with the amount depending on the size of the pile and how much of the knuckleboom truck it fills. City of Paducah residential accounts; the person named on the water bill has to contact Public Works on 270-444-8511, after which a supervisor reviews the pile and assigns the fee.
When & how
Place the items adjacent to the street rather than in an alley and call Public Works on 270-444-8511, keeping in mind that pay piles are collected on Thursdays and Fridays with a knuckleboom truck.
Get it ready
Keep hazardous waste and materials such as paint, gasoline, solvents, oil, batteries, tires, bricks, blocks and building or construction material out of the pile, because those contents interrupt ordinary service, and keep the pile clear of parked cars, mailboxes, utility poles and other stationary objects.
Scrap metal is not named as its own route on the city page, so it has to be confirmed as a pay pile or taken with an appliance at the Spring Clean Up Day.
City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no scrap metal rate or drop-off, so confirm with Public Works on 270-444-8511 whether a metal load is treated as a pay pile with the minimum fee, or whether it can travel with appliances to the Spring Clean Up Day.
When & how
Call Public Works on 270-444-8511 first, then use the pay pile route or the Spring Clean Up Day depending on what staff confirm.
Get it ready
Keep metal out of the rollout container, remove loose glass, plastic and hazardous attachments before a metal load is weighed or reviewed, and keep the pile clear of parked cars and utility poles so the knuckleboom truck can reach it.
City containers, early mornings and four feet of clearance
Paducah residential solid waste costs 28.00 a month for one rollout and includes yard waste collection and curbside recycling for households that sign up, with fees on the monthly water bill. Only city-issued containers are serviced, crews run from 4 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on residential and commercial routes, and containers must be out by 4 a.m. on the collection day, so the city recommends setting them out the night before. Collection runs Tuesday through Friday with recycling the same day, and holidays may push a route to Monday. Containers go within two feet of the roadside edge with handles facing away from the street, and the side-arm truck cannot service a container with a stationary object such as a car, mailbox, utility pole, tree, shrub or fence within four feet. Overfilled containers may interrupt service, and contents such as paint, gasoline, solvents, oil, batteries, tires, bricks, blocks and construction material stop the collection altogether.
Anything that will not fit the container, including furniture, is a pay pile. The items go adjacent to the street rather than in an alley, and the person named on the water bill calls Public Works on 270-444-8511 to report the pile. A Public Works supervisor then reviews it and assigns a fee that depends on the size of the pile and how much of the knuckleboom truck it fills, with a minimum charge added to the water bill, and collection happens on Thursdays and Fridays. If the pile is refused for a rule violation, a Call Back service before the next scheduled date carries an additional fee.
Yard waste is part of the monthly charge and crews cover the city each week, so routine material needs no request and a couple of bags or a few twigs can even go in the rollout. Limbs have to be 48 inches or shorter and no more than 15 inches in diameter, leaves and clippings must be bagged at 50 pounds or less and kept separate from the piles, and the pile cannot be larger than a small car at roughly 10 feet long and 5 feet high. A pile above those limits may be collected for a 150 fee, and large limbs, stumps and trunks are special collections that may also carry 150, with some pieces too large for the compost grinder and possibly not collected. The free alternative is a trip to the Compost Facility at 1560 North 8th Street, which also takes Christmas trees and brush at no charge.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
A Paducah household with furniture, a mattress or other items that will not fit the city rollout container.

Arrange it
Place the items adjacent to the street rather than in an alley, call Public Works on 270-444-8511, wait for the supervisor's review and fee call, and leave the pile out for collection on a Thursday or Friday.
The fee is assigned rather than quoted up front and starts at the published minimum, hazardous material, tires, bricks, blocks and construction material cannot be included, and a refused pile needs a paid Call Back before the next scheduled date.

Arrange it
Take the material to 1560 North 8th Street during the facility's operating hours, and check the Compost Facility page for what it accepts and when it is open.

Self hauling in Paducah runs through the Compost Facility and the annual Spring Clean Up Day, because the city's own trucks handle the routine work and the pay pile route is a request rather than a drop-off. Residents can take brush, leaves, grass clippings and a stripped Christmas tree to the Compost Facility at 1560 North 8th Street at no charge, checking that facility's page for its hours, while a yard pile larger than a small car or a load of large limbs, stumps and trunks needs a request to Public Works on 270-444-8511 or through the MyPaducah Brush Pickup option and may carry a fee of 150, with some pieces too large for the compost grinder and possibly not collected. Once a year the city and McCracken County hold a free Spring Clean Up Day at the Republic Services transfer station at 829 Burnett Street, which in 2026 ran on Saturday April 18 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for residents who bring identification; it accepts household trash, major appliances tagged coolant or Freon free, up to eight tires per resident, household hazardous waste that is labelled and in its original container, ammunition, prescription medications, batteries and e-scrap, while refusing medical waste, commercial waste and radioactive items. Households that cannot use the event can still ask Public Works about a pay pile, which starts at the published minimum fee, is added to the water bill and is collected on Thursdays and Fridays by knuckleboom truck after a supervisor reviews the pile. City solid waste, brush and yard waste page with the monthly residential fee, container rules, collection days and times, the pay pile process and fee, the yard waste size guidelines and oversized pile fee, the free Compost Facility, the Spring Clean Up Day accepted and refused lists and the hazardous waste guidance

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items.
