The local disposal guide
Paducah collects its own waste through a Solid Waste Division that runs as an enterprise fund, serving nearly 9,850 residential accounts and charging 28.00 a month for one rollout container with the fee on the monthly water bill. Weekly garbage runs Tuesday through Friday, yard waste rides the same service with no request needed for routine piles, and curbside recycling is voluntary but has to be signed up for. Anything that will not fit the container becomes a pay pile, reviewed by a supervisor and collected on a Thursday or Friday by knuckleboom truck for a minimum charge. The size limits matter in Paducah: brush has to be cut short and the pile kept no larger than a small car, with an oversized pile costing a set fee, and the free alternative is a trip to the Compost Facility on North 8th Street. Once a year the city and McCracken County also run a free Spring Clean Up Day at the Republic Services transfer station where appliances tagged as Freon free, up to eight tires, e-scrap, batteries, household chemicals and medications all leave together, which is the only published route for most of those items.

The handoff matters
Paducah residential solid waste costs 28.00 a month for one rollout and includes yard waste collection and curbside recycling for households that sign up, with fees on the monthly water bill. Only city-issued containers are serviced, crews run from 4 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on residential and commercial routes, and containers must be out by 4 a.m. on the collection day, so the city recommends setting them out the night before. Collection runs Tuesday through Friday with recycling the same day, and holidays may push a route to Monday. Containers go within two feet of the roadside edge with handles facing away from the street, and the side-arm truck cannot service a container with a stationary object such as a car, mailbox, utility pole, tree, shrub or fence within four feet. Overfilled containers may interrupt service, and contents such as paint, gasoline, solvents, oil, batteries, tires, bricks, blocks and construction material stop the collection altogether.

The items go adjacent to the street rather than in an alley, and the person named on the water bill calls Public Works on 270-444-8511 to report the pile. A Public Works supervisor then reviews it and assigns a fee that depends on the size of the pile and how much of the knuckleboom truck it fills, with a minimum charge added to the water bill, and collection happens on Thursdays and Fridays. If the pile is refused for a rule violation, a Call Back service before the next scheduled date carries an additional fee.

A pile above those limits may be collected for a 150 fee, and large limbs, stumps and trunks are special collections that may also carry 150, with some pieces too large for the compost grinder and possibly not collected. The free alternative is a trip to the Compost Facility at 1560 North 8th Street, which also takes Christmas trees and brush at no charge.
