Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Bulk waste is collected once a week as part of the out-of-cart service that comes with the monthly solid waste fee, and the city defines it as items that are hard to containerize, naming furniture, large household items, mattresses, water heaters, tires, white goods and lawnmowers. A crew takes up to ten out-of-cart items on a collection day, and up to three of those can be bulk waste or recyclables.
Furniture is named first in the city's bulk waste definition, so a couch goes out with the weekly out-of-cart collection rather than needing a booking, and it has to be left unbagged in its own pile.
Mattresses are named in the city's bulk waste definition, so bedding goes out with the weekly out-of-cart collection and no separate appointment or fee is published.
White goods are collected as bulky recyclables once a week, with the city naming stoves, washers, refrigerators and other large appliances, and a second route is the city-parish drop-off at the North Landfill in Zachary.
Electronics are not part of the curbside rules, and the city points to two named recyclers instead: the Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council, which takes computers, phones, networking gear and LCD monitors only and charges for televisions, copiers and printers, and Atlas Electronics Recycling, which the city says offers free residential pickup.
Exercise equipment is not named anywhere in the city's item lists, so a machine has to be matched to the bulk waste definition and to the bulky recyclable stream, which the city describes as white goods and similar large metal items.
Tires are collected curbside. The city lists tires in its bulk waste definition and, on the services page, caps the bulky recyclable stream at up to four automobile tires at a time.
The handoff matters
The monthly solid waste fee covers twice-a-week garbage for one cart, once-a-week recycling and once-a-week out-of-cart collection. Carts have to be City-Parish carts carrying the seal and a serial number, the lids have to be closed or the cart is not collected, carts need 3 feet of clearance from anything else, and they go out with the metal bar facing the street and the wheels toward the house. The garbage collection page says carts must be in place by 4 a.m. while the services page says recycling carts must be in place by 5 a.m., so the earlier time is the safe one. Extra garbage carts cost 7 dollars a month each and are billed on the same solid waste, sewer and water bill. Service does not run on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, and a holiday on a collection day moves service to the next scheduled day unless the city notifies residents otherwise.
