The city electronics and polystyrene event and the county collection events are free to residents, and the retail counters set their own terms, so confirm the next event date or the counter policy before loading. The county guide asks residents to call a listed business first because those listings change.

Use the city Electronics and Polystyrene number 6 event at the Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St., on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 9 to 11 a.m., or a free Calhoun County electronics collection, which has run at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. Best Buy on Harper Village Drive and Franklin Iron and Metal on South Avenue are the weekday options.
Get it ready
Delete the data from computers, phones and drives before handing anything over, and keep electronics out of the trash, the recycling cart and the bulk pile, because each of those refuses them. The county runs its household hazardous waste collection and its electronics collection as separate streams on the same event days, so hand a television to the electronics station rather than the hazardous waste table.
Battle Creek asks for garbage, recycling, bulk items and yard waste at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day, and the bins can go out after 1 p.m. the day before. Bins come back in by 9 a.m. the day after pickup and may not be stored in the front yard, under ordinances 1064.23, 1064.26 and 1064.27. No container may weigh more than 50 pounds or be longer than 4 feet, and needles, oil, paint, turpentine and batteries never go in a container. Trash, recycling, bulk items and yard waste can arrive on different trucks at different times, so an early truck is not a missed pickup.

Scrap metal and large appliances with refrigerant are not accepted at the event, and the polystyrene side takes only clean, dry number 6 foam without packing peanuts, flexible foam or construction foam. The event runs on published dates rather than every week, so anything time sensitive needs a weekday alternative.

Watch the county event calendar, which has used Bailey Park at 1350 Capital Ave. NE in Battle Creek for a combined household hazardous waste, appliance, electronics and scrap metal collection, and the Calhoun County Fairgrounds at 720 Fair St. in Marshall for hazardous waste. Scrap tire collections run in Marshall and Tekonsha with a 10 tire limit and no rims.
Events are residential only, and the appliance terms change between sites: one Battle Creek site took refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and water coolers, while a later Albion event refused refrigerant units entirely. Hazardous waste collections exclude trash, tires, yard waste, construction and demolition waste and appliances, so each material needs its own event.
