Appliances are collected as bulk items on Thursdays, and cooling appliances go to the disposal center as Freon units with the doors removed.
City cost & eligibility
$33 for the first bulk item on a scheduled Thursday collection, with each additional item at $16.50. City of Lansing households, with the pickup requested and paid before it is scheduled. Working appliances may instead be donated when they meet the ReStore's age and condition rules.
When & how
Request and pay for the Thursday bulk pickup, or take the appliance to the disposal center during its posted hours if you would rather haul it yourself.
Get it ready
Remove the doors from refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioning units. The disposal center lists those as Freon bulk items and requires the doors off, and it prices them above the standard bulk item rate.
Bulk items are only picked up on Thursdays, and only after the pickup is requested and paid for. If the item is not at the curb on the Thursday the work order names, it may have to wait until the following Thursday.
Nothing is scheduled until the payment is made. After the bulk item form is submitted, watch for the email with the payment and pickup instructions, then pay online, by mailed check, in person at the Treasurer's Office in City Hall, or on the automated phone line.
The City's ordinance puts containers in the right-of-way no earlier than 4:00 p.m. the day before collection and expects them back off the right-of-way by 7:00 a.m. the day after. Plan a bulk item for the same Thursday window rather than leaving it at the curb all week, because left-out material can draw a fine.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

$33 for the first bulk item on a scheduled Thursday collection, with each additional item at $16.50. City of Lansing households. The pickup has to be requested and paid before it is scheduled, and households that meet the City's income qualifications can request one free item each year with proof of a matching service address.
Arrange it
Submit the Bulk Item Request Form, pay from the emailed instructions, and have the item at the curb on the scheduled Thursday. Questions about whether an item counts go to the CART office, which answers email and the phone line during weekday business hours.
Only household bulk items are collected, only on Thursdays, and only after payment. The City asks residents to check items that are not clearly covered before setting them out.

Bring donations to 1941 Benjamin Drive during store hours, or schedule a truck pickup and pay the collection charge. Calling ahead helps when an item is borderline.
The ReStore refuses mattresses, box springs, electronics, desks and office furniture, damaged or mouldy items, paint and hazardous material, and it can decline anything when its stock is full.
The City's own bulk service is the cheapest route for household items, at a published rate for the first item and each item after it, collected on a requested Thursday. Households that would rather not wait can haul the same material to the Granger Disposal Center of Lansing at 16500 Wood Road, which publishes a rate for household trash by the cubic yard, a separate construction waste rate, a per-item bulk rate and a higher rate for Freon appliances with the doors off. Furniture and working appliances that are still in good condition can also be donated to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 1941 Benjamin Drive, which refuses mattresses, box springs and electronics. Recycling and yard waste ride separate CART collections and are covered by the annual fee on the winter tax bill, while trash service is a paid subscription that residents arrange separately. Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own.
