Two views of the same room corner: a treadmill on the left, and a small desk and chair in its place on the right.
A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Ready for pickup

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Your place. One easy pickup plan.

A house, a condo or an apartment. Choose an accessible outdoor spot that works for your property. You arrange the move outside; we take it from there.

  1. Check the route and the model.

Measure doors and turns, and check the manufacturer’s moving instructions. Folding and moving methods vary by model. Have any required disassembly handled before pickup; we start outside.

  2. Book a day you can be ready.

Choose from the available pickup dates before moving the machine out. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. Book by 2pm at the pickup address for same-day pickup.

  3. Make the equipment easy to identify.

Place the booked equipment in an accessible outdoor spot. Keep any separated parts together, add a photo and clear location notes to your order, and leave the approach clear.

Treadmills and exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and weight equipment are not accepted at the county Recycling Zone. A transfer station lists exercise equipment with its large items, and the DVR drop-off event charges per piece.

City cost & eligibility
Dakota Area Transfer lists exercise equipment in its $50 large-item category for 2026, and the DVR summer drop-off event charges $10 per piece. Haulers set their own price.
When & how
Ask your hauler, bring the machine to a transfer station during public drop-off hours, or use the Dakota Valley Recycling drop-off event in June.
Get it ready
Remove batteries and loose accessories, drain any fluid, and ask the receiving site whether a heavy multi-piece machine has to be broken down before transport.

Follow the hauler's own pickup instructions

Eagan lets trash and recycling containers sit at the curb or collection point from 6 p.m. the night before collection until 6 a.m. on collection day, and asks that containers stay out of sight from the street at all other times. A one-time large-item pickup follows the hauler's own directions, so confirm the spot and the timing when you schedule it.

Prepare a drop-off load

For a transfer station or the Recycling Zone, load the items yourself and check the current hours before you leave. At the Recycling Zone, stay in the vehicle and keep everything except sharps in the trunk or the very back so staff can unload it, and have proof of residency ready. Facilities price a load by item, weight or vehicle type, so ask before you drive.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

City of Eagan, Dakota Valley Recycling and licensed residential haulers

Arrange a one-time pickup with your licensed hauler

Households with a couch, mattress, appliance, television or exercise machine that will not fit the curbside carts.

Cost & conditions
Each licensed hauler sets its own one-time large-item price and its own list of what it will take. Ask for the price when you book.
Arrange it
Call the hauler that collects your garbage, or one of the other licensed haulers on the city list, and describe the exact items and where they will sit. County guidance points residents to their hauler for a one-time large-item pickup.

Eagan has no citywide bulky-item collection, so what each hauler accepts, prices and asks you to do at the curb varies by company.

Use the Dakota Valley Recycling drop-off event

Eagan households with appliances, mattresses, box springs, exercise equipment, scrap metal or electronics, including screens.

Cost & conditions
The published 2026 event charged per item: appliances $5 each with water softeners at $30, power equipment and exercise equipment $10 each, scrap metal $5 per load, televisions and monitors $25 to $45 by size, other electronics $10 each, and mattresses or box springs $20 per piece. Laptops, towers, phones and tablets were free. Confirm the current event prices.
Arrange it
Eagan is one of the four cities Dakota Valley Recycling serves, so residents can use its events. Check the collection and swap events page for the current date, time and location, then load one vehicle and stay in it on arrival.

It is a one-day event rather than a year-round route. The published drop-off did not accept furniture including futons, air mattresses, tires, batteries or construction material.

Through your building

Start with management at an apartment or shared building

Residents of apartments, condominiums, townhomes and other multi-unit buildings that use a shared hauler or dumpster.

Cost & conditions
The property owner, manager or its private hauler sets the arrangement and the price for removing a large item.
Arrange it
Ask the property manager how the building handles a large item and whether the shared hauler will take it. Multi-unit and commercial hauling is licensed separately from the household list.

Do not put a large item out under the single-family collection rules without confirming the building arrangement. Buildings with four or more attached units and a shared contract must meet the county recycling requirements instead.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Eagan collects no garbage of its own, so a self-haul trip is a normal route for a large item. The Dakota County Recycling Zone at 3365 Dodd Road in Eagan takes electronics, tires and household hazardous waste, but it does not take appliances, furniture, mattresses or exercise equipment. For those, use a transfer station: Dakota Area Transfer in Rosemount takes furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics and construction debris, and Freeway Transfer in Burnsville takes couches, stoves, carpet, drywall and project debris. Call the facility with your exact items and load before you leave home, and check the published public drop-off hours. worth knowing.

Exercise equipment removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Eagan.

How much does exercise equipment removal cost in Eagan?

A household treadmill is $159 as the first item and $85 additional. An elliptical is $159 first and $85 additional; an exercise bike is $119 first and $40 additional. Choose all your items to see the combined price. Loading, transportation and disposal are included, with any applicable sales tax shown before payment.

Can you pick up a treadmill or exercise bike today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the equipment outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; we book a day rather than an exact appointment time.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?

Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.

How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?

Enter the combined weight in pounds for your dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Booking rounds that total up to the next 10 lb unit: 25 lb uses three units. Stands, racks and benches are separate items and do not include the loose weights. Add each one that is going.

How do I get rid of a treadmill in Eagan?

The county Recycling Zone lists exercise equipment as not accepted. Take it to a transfer station such as Dakota Area Transfer, ask your hauler for a one-time pickup, or use the DVR summer drop-off event, which charges per piece for Eagan residents.Official guidance

Who collects large items in Eagan?

Nobody on a city route. Eagan licenses private haulers and requires them to offer curbside recycling, but the city runs no bulky-item collection. County guidance tells residents to call the hauler on their account for a one-time large-item pickup, or to use a transfer station, a temporary dumpster or a bag service instead.Official guidance

Can I drop off furniture or a mattress myself?

Yes, but not at the county Recycling Zone, which refuses furniture, mattresses, box springs and appliances. Self-haul those items to a transfer station such as Dakota Area Transfer in Rosemount or Freeway Transfer in Burnsville, and call first to confirm the rate, hours and unloading rules.Official guidance
