A mattress is a priced item at the Recycling Center Plus, not a curbside pickup, and the county caps the drop-off at eight mattresses per day.
City cost & eligibility
$30 per mattress at the Olmsted County Recycling Center Plus, up to eight per day. Households at the Recycling Center Plus. A foundation or box spring is charged as a bulky category B item at 20 dollars, a futon mattress is also category B, and a non recyclable mattress is charged as category D at 30 dollars.
When & how
Take the unit to the Recycling Center Plus at 305 Energy Parkway NE, open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and plan for no more than eight mattresses in one day. A hauler or a licensed Class D junk hauler is the alternative if the unit cannot be moved.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the garbage cart, and separate a mattress from its box spring if both are going, because the county prices them in different lines. Check the item with the county's waste wizard before the trip if the unit is unusual.
Self-hauling runs through the Recycling Center Plus
A self-hauler is a generator that does not contract with a Class A, Class B or Class C licensed hauler and instead brings its own material to the Recycling Center Plus at 305 Energy Parkway NE, and a self-hauler may not collect from anyone else for compensation. The drop-off opens Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., takes pre-sorted recyclables including aluminium cans, glass bottles and jars, cardboard, paper, plastics numbered 1, 2 and 5, tin and steel cans and clean scrap metal free of charge, and charges a service minimum plus per item fees for garbage, appliances, furniture, mattresses, electronics, tires, brush and construction material. Residential municipal waste that would otherwise reach the landfill must come here.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

From $5 for minimum self-haul service charge at the Olmsted County Recycling Center Plus. Self-haulers and licensed Class D haulers at 305 Energy Parkway NE. The service charge is 5 dollars per 30 gallons in increments up to 150 gallons and 30 dollars per cubic yard for large quantities, pre-sorted recyclables are free, and bulky items, appliances, mattresses, electronics and tires carry the fees published in the county schedule.

The county licenses Class D haulers but does not publish their prices, and a Class D hauler also pays the county drop-off service charge of 190 dollars per ton when it disposes of mixed municipal waste at the county facility, which is part of what its quote has to cover. Ask for the all-in price for the load.

A Class D licence does not allow weekly garbage collection, and the hauler has to fill its own vehicle at the property rather than leaving a container for the customer to load, so the schedule has to be arranged around an appointment.
