A mattress is named on the city's approved bulky item list, so it goes out with the scheduled curbside bulky pickup rather than in the cart. Bulky pickup runs four times a year and each visit is limited to four cubic yards, so the collection has to be booked with the hauler.

Bulky item pickup is included in the base monthly solid waste rate of $17.42 that every household inside the city limits pays, with four scheduled pickups a year and no separate charge for the items. When & how
Call Republic Services at 800-431-1507 to schedule the pickup, then set the mattress out on the day the hauler gives you. No more than four cubic yards are taken per pickup, and the allowance is four pickups a year.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and whole, set it at the curb or in the alley where the cart goes, and leave it accessible for a two person lift. Hold the box spring with it so both count in the same four cubic yard load.
Only what fits in the cart is collected on trash day
From October 1, 2026 the hauler collects only trash that fits inside your single cart and will not pick up extra bags or items left beside it. Rent a second cart or enroll in recycling through Republic Services if you regularly have more, and remove carts you do not need so you are not billed for them.
