Finish clearing the space
The last few things still deserve a pickup.
You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

The city defines bulky rubbish as material too large or too heavy for a collection truck to load, and it does not run a curbside bulky item collection. Residents asked for one in the city's own survey, so the routes today are a licensed hauler, the landfill small load drop-off or a local junk collection service.
City cost & eligibility
From $20 for minimum charge per vehicle at the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill small load drop-off, with a per ton charge on top. Any vehicle delivering municipal solid waste, construction and demolition waste or approved special waste. The landfill page listed the tonnage rate at 38.50 dollars per ton with a 20 dollar minimum, and the citizen's guide lists the same 20 dollar vehicle minimum.
When & how
Ask the hauler on the account about a haul, or load the item and drive to the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill at 3545 W. Farm Road 34 in Willard. The landfill is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the city's 2026 mattress page, while the landfill's own 2025 page closed at 4 p.m. on weekdays, so confirm the closing time before a long drive.
Get it ready
Cover and secure the load, because the landfill requires it and unsecured material can be denied. Keep banned material out of the truck: hazardous wastes, lead acid batteries, whole tires, waste oil, liquids that are not in a container, asbestos and major appliances are all refused at the landfill, and yard waste is banned from Missouri landfills.
Furniture is not accepted at the city recycling centers, which take only recyclables and limited yard waste, so a couch leaves through a licensed hauler, a junk collection service or a load to the landfill.
City cost & eligibility
From $20 for minimum charge per vehicle at the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill, with a per ton charge on top. Household loads delivered to the landfill, which accepts municipal solid waste and construction and demolition waste. A hauler or a junk collection service quotes its own price.
When & how
Call the hauler on the account or a junk collection service such as Complete Electronics Recycling, which advertises furniture removal, and confirm the price. The landfill alternative is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the city's 2026 mattress page.
Get it ready
Empty the drawers and remove loose parts before the load is built, and keep the furniture out of the recycling bins, because the city recycling centers accept only aluminum, cardboard, glass, paper, plastic and tin with limited yard waste. Cover the load if it is going to the landfill.
Springfield runs a mattress recycling programme with a flat per piece rate at three city locations, and the mattresses are broken down through a contract with Victory Mission instead of being buried.
City cost & eligibility
$20 per mattress or box spring recycled at a city site, regardless of size. Households dropping a clean, dry unit at Lone Pine Avenue Recycling Center, Franklin Avenue Recycling Center or the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill. Mattresses and box springs are each charged at the same per piece rate.
When & how
Take the unit to Lone Pine at 3020 S. Lone Pine Avenue or Franklin Avenue at 731 N. Franklin, both open Tuesday to Saturday, or to the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill at 3545 W. Farm Road 34 in Willard, open Monday to Friday and Saturday Mornings. Recycle only on a drop-off visit, because no curbside mattress route exists.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress clean, dry and free of infestation before the trip, because the city refuses wet materials, insect-infested materials and heavily soiled items. Take the box spring separately if both are going, since each piece is charged.
Refrigerators, washers, dryers and other appliances
Accepted with preparation
Major appliances are banned from the city landfill, so the published route is a commercial recycler that takes kitchen and laundry appliances free and charges a higher rate for a unit that contains refrigerant.
City cost & eligibility
From $20 per appliance containing freon at Complete Electronics Recycling, where appliances without refrigerant are accepted free. Households at 2935 W. Chestnut Expy. Refrigerators, freezers, deep freezes, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are charged at the freon rate, while microwaves, stoves and ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, water heaters, furnaces and other kitchen appliances are accepted free.
When & how
Take the unit to Complete Electronics Recycling at 2935 W. Chestnut Expy, open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Sunday, or ask the company for a pickup, for which it says a fee may apply. Do not plan a landfill trip for an appliance, because major appliances are on the landfill's banned list.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, remove the doors so a child cannot be trapped, and keep any loose refrigerant line intact for the receiving site to handle. Say when you call whether the appliance contains freon, because that decides the tier.
Springfield runs no municipal electronics drop-off, so the published local route is a commercial recycler that accepts computers, phones, printers, cables and other devices free and charges per screen for televisions and monitors.
City cost & eligibility
From $20 per television or monitor at Complete Electronics Recycling, where other electronics are accepted free. Households at 2935 W. Chestnut Expy. All televisions, CRT monitors and LCD, LED or plasma televisions carry the screen rate, while computers, laptops, LCD and LED monitors in the computing category, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, servers, phones, tablets, gaming systems, cables, fluorescent bulbs and batteries follow their own lines.
When & how
Take the device to Complete Electronics Recycling at 2935 W. Chestnut Expy on a Monday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or request a pickup and confirm the collection charge. The city's own guidance for an item the facilities do not take is to search the Waste Wizard.
Get it ready
Wipe or remove the storage from a computer, laptop, tablet or phone before it leaves the house, and keep batteries and bulbs out of the recycling bins at the city centers, which accept only aluminum, cardboard, glass, paper, plastic, tin and limited yard waste. A television is never an approved item at a city recycling center.
Exercise equipment is named in the free accepted list at the Springfield electronics recycler, which also breaks down bicycles, lawnmowers and other small machines.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Households dropping the machine at Complete Electronics Recycling, 2935 W. Chestnut Expy, Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exercise equipment sits in the free accepted categories rather than the television, fluorescent, alkaline battery or freon tiers.
When & how
Take the machine to the recycler during its published hours, or request a pickup and confirm the collection charge, which the contact page says may apply.
Get it ready
Strip the machine down as far as it comes apart, remove or tape any battery pack, and keep loose weights together so the receiving site can handle the pieces. Exercise equipment is not a city recycling center item, so it never goes in the bins.
Construction and demolition waste is an accepted class at the city landfill rather than a curbside or recycling center material, and demolition permit holders have to name their disposal site on the permit.
City cost & eligibility
From $20 for minimum charge per vehicle for construction and demolition waste at the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill, with a per ton charge on top. Any vehicle delivering construction and demolition waste to the landfill. The landfill page listed the tonnage rate at 38.50 dollars per ton with the 20 dollar minimum, and the guide repeats the 20 dollar minimum per vehicle.
When & how
Load the debris and drive to the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill at 3545 W. Farm Road 34 in Willard, or ask a licensed hauler with roll-off equipment to place a container. Check the closing time before the trip, because the landfill page and the newer mattress page disagree.
Get it ready
Cover and secure the load, name the disposal site on a demolition permit if one is required, and keep demolition and construction waste out of the household container, because the code's container rule treats it as a separate stream. Yard waste, tires, appliances and hazardous material are all refused at the landfill.
Household chemicals never belong in the container or at the recycling centers, and Springfield collects them by appointment at a regional Household Chemical Collection Center that serves five counties.
City cost & eligibility
The city publishes the center's hours and its accepted list but no fee, so the charge has to be confirmed when the appointment is booked on 417-864-2000 rather than assumed to be free.
When & how
Book an appointment on 417-864-2000 and take the material to 1226 W. Nichols Street during the published slots: Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the first two Saturdays in April from 9 a.m. to noon and the last two Saturdays in October from 9 a.m. to noon.
Get it ready
Bring only household hazardous, toxic and flammable material such as oil based paints and stains, paint strippers and solvents, pesticides, cleaners, aerosols, automotive products and arts and crafts supplies, because the center is not a general drop-off. The landfill refuses hazardous waste, waste oil, lead acid batteries and whole tires, so none of that belongs in a landfill load.
Only a licensed hauler may collect, and only an approved site may receive
Chapter 94 requires a city licence, issued annually, before anyone may haul or collect solid waste to or from residential, commercial or industrial establishments or any disposal or processing facility in Springfield, and it sets vehicle, cover and operating standards for licensees. The same chapter requires every load of waste collected, transported or generated in the city to be disposed of at an approved site, makes using a vehicle at an unapproved site a violation and requires anyone taking out a demolition permit to list the approved disposal site on the application.
Landfill loads are covered, weighed and checked against a banned list
Every vehicle entering the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill pays a tipping fee, listed in January 2025 at 38.50 dollars per ton with a 20 dollar minimum, and the citizen's guide repeats the 20 dollar minimum for both the small load drop-off and the working face. Loads must be covered and secured, scavenging is prohibited, and staff will deny service to a load that breaks the rules. Explosives, hazardous wastes, flammable substances, infectious wastes, lead acid batteries, liquids not in a container, major appliances, PCBs, radioactive material, asbestos, septic tank pumpings, vehicle bodies and frames, whole tires, waste oil and yard waste are all banned.
Recycling at the city centers is free and run on an honour system
The city recycling centers accept aluminum, cardboard, glass, paper, plastic and tin free of charge, and Lone Pine adds limited yard waste of ten bags of leaves and two bundles of brush or sticks. Recycling is free but suggested honor system fees and donations are encouraged, and only cash and cheques are accepted at Franklin Avenue, Lone Pine and the Household Chemical Collection Center, while the landfill and the Yardwaste Recycling Center also take credit and debit cards.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
City of Springfield Environmental Services with licensed private haulers
Hire a licensed hauling company
A Springfield household that wants ordinary weekly trash and recycling service and a company to call about a large item.
Cost & conditions
The city sets no household rate because collection is private, so ask each company for its monthly charge and its bulky item policy rather than assuming the city controls the price.
Arrange it
Choose a company that holds the annual city licence required by Chapter 94 and confirm the collection day, the barrel size and what it will take beyond the barrel. The city publishes no approved hauler list here, so ask the company for its licence number or call the Environmental Services office on 417-864-1904.
Because collection is an open market, two neighbours can pay different rates for the same service, and not every company accepts bulky items, so the bulky item question has to be asked before the item is set out.
City of Springfield Environmental Services with licensed private haulers
Take a household load to the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill
A Springfield household with a truck or trailer load of bagged waste, furniture, construction debris or other non-hazardous material that it can unload itself.
Cost & conditions
From $20 for minimum charge per vehicle at the landfill, with a per ton charge on top. Household vehicles delivering municipal solid waste, construction and demolition waste or approved special waste. The page listed the tonnage rate at 38.50 dollars per ton with the 20 dollar minimum, and cash, cheque and major cards are accepted.
Arrange it
Drive to 3545 W. Farm Road 34 in Willard, nine miles north of the Highway 13 and Interstate 44 interchange, arriving early enough to be unloaded before closing. The small load area takes hand unload vehicle and trailer combinations and directs everything else to the working face.
Major appliances, whole tires, yard waste, hazardous waste, lead acid batteries, waste oil, asbestos and liquids outside a container are all banned, and loads must be covered and secured or service can be denied.
City of Springfield Environmental Services with licensed private haulers
Book an appointment at the Household Chemical Collection Center
A household with oil based paint, stains, solvents, pesticides, cleaners, aerosols, automotive products or arts and crafts chemicals.
Cost & conditions
The city publishes the accepted list, the hours and the appointment line but no fee for household drop-off, so confirm the charge when the appointment is booked.
Arrange it
Call 417-864-2000 to book a slot at 1226 W. Nichols Street, on Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the first two Saturdays in April or the last two Saturdays in October, and bring proof that the household is in Greene, Christian, Polk, Dallas or Webster county if asked.
The center is appointment only and does not take ordinary garbage, yard waste, electronics or appliances, and the landfill refuses hazardous waste, waste oil and lead acid batteries, so a hazardous item has no other city route.
aluminum, cardboard, glass, paper, plastic and tin, with limited yard waste of ten bags of leaves, two bundles of brush or sticks and organic holiday decor, plus mattress and box spring recycling.
Household recyclables only. Recycling is free but suggested honor system fees and donations are encouraged, and only cash and cheques are accepted for donations, mulch and compost sales. Electronics, appliances, furniture and household chemicals are not accepted here.
Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday and on New Year's Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Recyclables and limited yard waste are free with suggested donations, while mattress recycling is charged at the city's per piece rate of 20 dollars, so the cost depends on what is in the load.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Springfield.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Springfield?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
How do bulky items leave a Springfield home?+
Through a licensed hauler, a junk collection service, or a load taken to the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill small load drop-off, which charges a minimum per vehicle plus a per ton rate. The city does not run a curbside bulky item collection, and its own public engagement page records that residents asked for one, so nothing about the curbside route is automatic.Official guidance
Will a Springfield hauler take my couch?+
Only if you hire one, because the city has no curbside bulky item route and the recycling centers take recyclables and limited yard waste rather than furniture. A licensed hauler or a junk collection service can carry it away, or a household load can go to the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill, where the charge starts at a per vehicle minimum plus tonnage.Official guidance
Where can a Springfield mattress be recycled?+
At Lone Pine Avenue Recycling Center, Franklin Avenue Recycling Center or the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill, for a flat rate per piece regardless of size, currently 20 dollars for a mattress and 20 dollars for a box spring. The unit has to be clean, dry and free of infestation, and the programme runs through a city contract with Victory Mission.Official guidance
Where does a Springfield household take an old appliance?+
To a commercial recycler such as Complete Electronics Recycling at 2935 W. Chestnut Expy, which accepts washing machines, dryers, stoves and ovens, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces and microwaves free and charges a fee for a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier that contains freon. The city landfill cannot take a major appliance at all, because its guide bans appliances from the working face and sends readers to the Waste Wizard instead.Official guidance
Where can a Springfield household take a television or computer?+
To Complete Electronics Recycling at 2935 W. Chestnut Expy, which charges a per item rate for televisions and monitors, including CRT sets, and accepts computers, laptops, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, phones, tablets, gaming systems and cables free. The city recycling centers do not take electronics, their bins are limited to aluminum, cardboard, glass, paper, plastic, tin and limited yard waste, and the landfill's guide sends appliance and specialty questions to the city Waste Wizard.Official guidance
How do I get rid of a treadmill in Springfield?+
Take it to Complete Electronics Recycling on West Chestnut Expressway, where exercise equipment is listed among the items accepted free along with bicycles, lawnmowers, power tools and sewing machines. The company also offers a pickup service, and its contact form notes that a collection charge may apply.Official guidance
Where does construction debris go in Springfield?+
To the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill, which accepts construction and demolition waste at a per vehicle minimum plus a per ton charge, or into a roll-off container supplied by a licensed hauler. Demolition permit holders have to list the approved disposal site on the permit application, and the load has to be covered and secured or it can be refused.Official guidance
Where do Springfield paint, chemicals and batteries go?+
To the Household Chemical Collection Center at 1226 W. Nichols Street, by appointment only on 417-864-2000. Appointments run Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on the first two Saturdays in April and the last two Saturdays in October. The center serves residents of Greene, Christian, Polk, Dallas and Webster counties and takes hazardous, toxic and flammable household material such as oil based paint, solvents, pesticides and cleaners.Official guidance
How do I check one odd item before the trip?+
Use the city's Waste Wizard, the searchable tool the city points residents to for repurposing, recycling and donation options in Springfield. The landfill's own guide sends appliance and specialty questions there, and the recycling brochure describes it as the place to find participating businesses for items the city centers do not take.Official guidance
Is there a city bulky item collection in Springfield?+
No. The city's public engagement page records that residents have asked for better bulky item collection, and its survey takeaway names curbside bulky item pickup among the most requested additional services. The code treats bulky rubbish as a separate stream from the container service, so a household arranges the haul through a licensed company, a junk collection service or a load to the landfill.Official guidance
